On Thursday, May 19, 2016, Quakertown senior Hillary Scott was recognized for committing to continue her field hockey career at Ball State University.
Hillary Scott – Ball State University (Field Hockey)
Major: Pre-Law
Final list of colleges: Ball State, Old Dominion, Hofstra
Reasons for choosing Ball State: “Great size and distance from home, friendly environment, competitive/skilled team, very welcoming. It was all around the perfect fit.”
What was the progression that led you to competing in field hockey at the collegiate level? “I started playing club for FSC in sixth grade, and my coaches have always been super supportive and informed my parents about the recruiting process. However, it didn’t get too serious until late sophomore/early junior year.”
Coach Diane Molinaro says: “In field hockey, a lot of recognition goes to the attack players, the goal scorers. Not a lot of recognition goes to the defensive players. However, Hillary was pretty much our defense the entire year and even the year before that. When you have a goal line save, that usually means the ball has gotten behind the goalie and past all the other defenders. Hillary had eight defensive saves this year, which really made a difference in so many games. She had 13 career goals – four of those were this year, and she had nine assists. She was also involved in our attack penalty corners, which is why as a defender she scored goals. She has an amazing high flick, which is very deceptive, and it was very deadly in many games, and it definitely makes a difference because teams were not expecting it. Hillary is very unassuming. She kind of flies under the radar, but she’s a really hard worker, and she’s very dependable, so if everything is breaking down, she’s the voice of reason and calm in the defense, and we really appreciated that this year. I wish her the best at Ball State. She will be a major impact player, and I think she will make a difference her freshman year in a big way.”
