Aubri Stetina – East Stroudsburg University (Tennis)

Major:  Environmental Science

Final list of colleges:  East Stroudsburg, Millersville, DeSales, Kutztown, Moravian, University of Kansas

Reasons for choosing East Stroudsburg:  “D2 school, really loved the tennis coach, lots of scholarship/financial aid, affordable and close to home.”

What was the progression that led you to competing in tennis at the collegiate level?  “Nearing the end of my senior season, I realized I didn’t want to stop playing the sport I had found a passion for. I looked into schools like DeSales, Millersville and had never considered ESU until I met the coach. I filled out some surveys online, signed up for a few recruiting programs, but nothing got me connected. It was the personal things like e-mails and phone calls that really sealed the deal for me.”

Coach Fernando Perez says:  “It has been my pleasure to see how a young shy girl has turned into a confident and outgoing young lady. I started coaching the Quakertown High School team when Aubri was a sophomore, and I remember a couple of her matches in the middle of the game she would come to me and say, ‘Coach, I’m so nervous, I can’t stop shaking.’ But by the time she was a senior she became a captain and a leader of the team.
“Aubri had a great commitment and determination. She played every single match for three years, and I can count on one hand how many times she missed a practice. Aubri was so committed to tennis that she asked me to become the manager of the boys’ tennis team just so she could continue playing tennis and be involved in it, and she did a terrific job.
“Each year she kept improving her tennis, and as a senior, she ended up with a record of 11-5, which was one of the best on the team, and she helped Quakertown have one of the best records in 25 years. I know Aubri is going to do great in college at East Stroudsburg, and I wish her the best.”
