SOL Girls' Volleyball Wrap (9-20-16)

Council Rock North and Hatboro-Horsham were winners in SOL girls’ volleyball action Tuesday.

COUNCIL ROCK NORTH 3, PENNSBURY 0 (25-21, 25-17, 25-21)
Hadley Grundman had a big day on and off the court on Tuesday.
“I’m proud to announce that Hadley Grundman has committed to the prestigious University of Chicago to play volleyball for them,” coach Mike Adam said.
For good measure, the senior middle blocker also had herself a big match, finishing with seven kills and four blocks to lead a balanced attack in the Indians’ sweep of the Falcons.
“Hadley came out again on fire and played fantastic tonight against a top team in the SOL,” Adam said. “Hadley really brought her A game and senior leadership again tonight.
“Pennsbury is a very solid team, and I’m looking forward to seeing how they do the remainder of the season and seeing them at our place later in the season.”
Birdie Ligos (six kills, six digs, one ace), Morgan Collito (four kills, two aces, six digs, two blocks), Dana Bandurick (four kills, four blocks, two digs) and MacKenzie Tinner (two kills, two aces, four blocks, one dig) also contributed at the net. Maddy Moore led the defense with 12 digs and two aces. Setters Sarah Caola (15 assists, six aces, two digs) and Johanna Batterton (six assists, two aces, four digs) combined for 21 assists. Kalein Mealey added two kills.
For the Falcons, Julia Vreeswyk led the way at the net with nine kills to go along with two aces and nine digs. Cheyenne Agrio added five kills and six digs. Sydney Buell added nine assists, three kills, four aces and seven digs. Kiley Buckman and Heather Linker both had six digs and one ace. Buckman also had 11 assists. 

HATBORO-HORSHAM 3, SOUDERTON 2 (20-25, 17-25, 25-20, 25-20, 15-5)
The Hatters won a marathon match against Souderton, improving their record to 9-0 overall (7-0 SOL).
“Souderton started off on fire, taking the first two sets of the match with error-free volleyball and phenomenal defense,” Hatters’ coach Jon Young said. “(We) struggled to find rhythm and put the ball down on Souderton's tough defense. (We) rallied to win the next three straight sets, albeit very close in sets three and four and then retained control in set five for the win.”
For the Hatters, senior outside hitter Holly Owen had 22 kills on the night, with three solo blocks, two aces, and 15 digs. Junior outside hitter Katerina Yankanich had 15 kills, two aces, one block and 17 digs. Senior libero Allison Laucella had two aces, 28 digs, two assists and added a kill. Junior Megan Barrella and Junior Maddie Kallmeyer both had four aces, and Kallmeyer added 23 digs to the match. Middles Victoria Rapak and MaryKate Scully had a combined six kills and five blocks with senior opposite hitter Elizabeth Dever adding three kills and five digs to the mix. Rachel Dittus ran the offense with 44 assists, and five digs.
For the Indians (5-3, 4-3 SOL), setter Lauren Hamilton had 26 assists, 10 digs, two kills and two blocks. Miranda Baronett led the defense with 21 digs to go along with two kills while Talia Watson added 14 digs. Haley Novak had a big night, finishing with 10 kills and 12 digs. Tori Reiner added five kills and five bocks, and Hannah Fairweather had five kills and three bocks. Monica Miller had four kills and 11 digs while Bella Mazzeo had three aces and four digs.
Hatboro-Horsham takes on Abington at home on Wednesday.
