Reasons for choosing UNCW: “UNCW was my first official visit, and instantly I knew this school was for me. I had Towson (scheduled) for an official visit, but I decided on UNCW before even visiting because I loved it so much. It was perfect – the team, the campus, the coach. The coach is super nice and exactly what I was looking for.”
What was the progression that led you to diving at collegiate level? “Ever since I started diving, I figured I would dive in college. This is my ninth year of diving, and all that hard work I wanted to put to use.”
Coach Greg Stoloski says: “Nicole is by far the best diver we’ve ever had at Pennsbury High School. Her abilities on the board really helped inspire other athletes on the team to not only come out for it but to improve. She leads not only our team but also the league in terms of pushing the limits for what is competitive diving in the area. She’s performed great at districts and states the last several years, and we expect her to do incredibly well there again this year, breaking several records for the school and numerous pools in the region on the way there.”
Coach Joe Costello says: “Everybody said from age eight on that she ‘has it,’ and she does. She’s very strong, she’s well balanced, she can find the water, and she spots real well. She does things you can’t teach. She’s got the determination. Last year going into districts, the night before she got 18 stitches in her hand. The doctor told her you’re not diving, and she said, ‘I have to.’ She went in and was in a lot of pain, and she ended up fourth. She should have challenged for first, but it just showed the grit and how all that hard work paid off. She knew her job and had to do it.”
