National Conference Millennium Administrators Highlighted Player

Megan Haggerty, Senior, Council Rock North High School
Note from the coach:
“In addition to being a leader - we all know that Megan can shoot the three, and we know that’s her strength,” coach Lou Palkovics said. “In previous seasons, I had to sometimes put her on the bench because I questioned her defense. I think she just decided this year – ‘Okay, I know I can shoot the three, but I’m going to make defense my strength,’ and she has.
“Our press against Conestoga (in a second round district game), she was a big reason we were getting turnovers with the way she can defend now. It’s hard to get her off the floor because you never know when she’s going to explode from the three-point line, but even if she’s missing her threes, she’s still valuable defensively.”

Continental Conference Highlighted Players

Lauren Rodebaugh, Senior, William Tennent High School
Note from the coach:

Lauren has been a part of the Tennent girls' basketball program for four years,” coach Laura Whiteney said. “She has played one year on the freshman team, two years on the jayvee team, and this past season was on the varsity team.  Lauren is a hard working and dedicated person, both on and off the court.  She is a true ‘team player,’ always supporting and encouraging her teammates and willing to do whatever is best for the team.  Lauren is always trying to improve and be the best she can in everything she does.  Her hard work and determination have paved the way for her success off the court as well evidenced by her recognition as a member of the Future Business Leaders of America and the Social Studies National Honor Society.”
About Lauren:
Best memory playing basketball:  Getting to play with my sister and making new memories with her and my friends.
Part of the game I enjoy most:  The last quarter when everyone's working their hardest to finish out the game.  I love the intensity and cheering on your teammates or them cheering you on.

Music that gets me pumped before games:  Usually whatever my teammates put on the speaker for the bus rides.  Usually rap or hip hop.  If I'm listening to my own music I put on anything with a good beat.

Jess Rutkowsky, Junior, William Tennent High School
Note from the coach:
“Jess is one of the hardest working and most passionate players I have ever coached,” said coach Laura Whiteney. “She embodies everything that Tennent basketball stands for.  She pushes her teammates everyday at practice to get better and doesn't take any shortcuts.  Jess does all the little things that don't always get noticed on the stat sheet like diving on the floor for a loose ball, taking a charge, being in the right position to help, and grabbing a big rebound.  She plays with so much energy and heart, and sets the tone and example for our younger players.  If there was a quote to explain the way she plays, without a doubt it would be, ‘It's not the size of the dog in the fight, it's the size of the fight in the dog.’  Despite being undersized, Jess gives 110% effort and leaves everything she has on the floor.”
About Jess:

Making a shot sitting/laying on the ground during a summer league game.
Part of the game I enjoy most: The competitiveness of the game and being able to play aggressive.

Jillian Martin, Senior, Quakertown High School
Note from the coach:
“Jill has been a presence for our team not just basketball-wise, but as a leader,” coach Brittany Remmey said. “She is patient and understanding with her teammates. She has really grown as a player over the past four years. From her footwork to her passing when getting double teamed and making good on the floor decisions to being a leader on and off the court. Jill is a great team player as she knows her role. She gives her teammates the reassurance they need at important moments in a game with her confidence. We will not only miss her post moves, blocks, and rebounds...we will also miss her sarcastic personality. Jill is a great listener and very intelligent. Both qualities will help her become an excellent nurse or physician’s assistant.”

Marina Cooke, Senior, Quakertown High School
Note from the coach:
“Marina provides our team with some spark,” coach Brittany Remmey said. “She can make a fancy move from out of nowhere. Her leadership, especially with the younger players, was tremendous this season as we were very young. Learning from past leaders and also putting a flare of her own personality in how to interact with her teammates. Seeing her earn the respect amongst her teammates and demand their best is what teaching is all about. Marina will be an excellent teacher because of these qualities. I frequently see her at basketball postseason games every year, and she constantly knew the stats on other games. I will miss the passion she had for the game and the way she always left it all out there on the floor.”
