#2 CENTRAL BUCKS SOUTH 5, #3 WILLIAM TENNENT 0
By Ben Reese
WARWICK -- There is such a thing as Central Bucks South hockey. It’s composed of speed, tenacity, selflessness and sacrifice.
And it all leads to winning as evidenced by the two state championships the Titans have in their trophy case.
South earned another victory Wednesday night in the semifinals of the Suburban High School Hockey League AA playoffs against William Tennent, a 5-0 win which sets up Thursday night's meeting against Council Rock South, a 5-4 overtime winner over Central Bucks West.
CB South hockey is what Tom Coyne brought to the Titans as head coach and what Shaun McGinty continues as the South head coach. It was a seamless transition from Coyne to McGinty.
"It's a team win," McGinty said after beating Tennent. "We play as a team. We execute as a team and that's why we've had success.
"Joe DeLaurentis was interviewed after the last game. Joey's a humble guy, a quiet guy. I've always been told that the guys who are intelligent usually talk a little and a good communicator is a good listener.
"For him to say 'We are CB South’ - what I took out of that quote was 'we.’ Even though Joey had a six-point night last night, he had a six-point night because of his team around him."
Another perfect example came Wednesday night. South's Matt Stoll had a five-point night, two goals and three assists. But he didn't really care.
"(It was) classic CB South hockey," Stoll said. "I love it.
"Teamwork, playing as a team, making it so we can win, doing anything we can to win. It's saying, 'Joe's a better player than me so I'll take a shift down for him to get us the win.'
"No individuality whatsoever. Anything to help the team win. Hard work, sacrifice, anything it takes to win."
It might be difficult to swallow for other teams. But it isn't difficult for them to see.
"We had no answer for their puck movement and their speed,' said Tennent coach Nick D'Aurizio. "They move the puck when they have it right around us, and when we have the puck, they swarm and they're on us faster than anyone has been on us all year.
"They play a frustrating style. When you have that type of speed and that type of discipline, you win.
"They do everything right. That was the most complete hockey game I've seen from any team all season."
Of course, it didn't hurt that the Titans got a pair of goals in the first period and three more in the second.
Reis Braccio scored the only goal South really needed with 4:55 gone in the first period. Colon Abbonizio added one with 1:10 left in the stanza. Stoll assisted on both goals.
In the second, Nick Morelli opened the scoring, with assists going to Braccio and Stoll. Stoll finished things up with his two goals.
Added to that was the play of Kevin Dorozinsky in goal for the Titans. He stopped all 21 shots on goal by the Panthers.
"That was a very good goalie," D'Aurizio said of Dorozinsky. "Even when we got our chances -- there were four or five that were scoring chances -- he shut them down. He played amazing tonight."
But Tennent was really stalled by CB South hockey.
"We couldn't get anything started leaving our defensive zone and up the ice," said D'Aurizio. "I'm the biggest believer in, if you take care of your own zone and get the puck down the ice, you're going to score.
"We put up a goose egg here tonight. We couldn't move out of our own end.
"That's peak CB South hockey right there. We saw vintage CB South there and we had no answer for it."

Trey Elmer’s shorthanded overtime goal with an assist from Dylan Feoli allowed the Golden Hawks to do what no team before them had done this season – they knocked off previously unbeaten CB West in a thrilling SHSHL semifinal game at Hatfield Ice.

West got on the scoreboard first on a Dalton Karl goal (Tucker Forte/Jacob Janik assists). Brendan Cullura (two goals, two assists) and Timothy Cordero (three goals, one assist) both had four-point nights to lead the Vikings’ attack.
The Vikings scored three unanswered goals in the opening period. Timothy Cordero (Brendan Cullura assist) put the Vikings on the board, and then it was Cullura scoring a short-handed goal for a 2-0 advantage. RJ Panella (Cullura assist) sent the Vikings into the second period with a 3-0 lead.
The Trojans opened the second period with back-to-back goals by Nolan Piatkowski and Sean Garry (Piatkowski assist), but Cordero (Declan Cole assist) found the net to give Wood a 4-2 advantage. The Trojans knotted the score on goals by Matt Cade and Jagger Doll, but an Evan Capinas power play goal with a Cordero assist sent the Vikings into the final period with a 5-4 lead.
The Trojans erased that with back-to-back goals by Kevin Schaeffer and Garry to go on top 6-5, but the Vikings closed it out with three unanswered goals by Cordero, Capinas and Cullura to earn the win that vaulted them into Thursday’s title game against PW.
Wood goalies Joseph Danig and David Casper combined for 19 saves while Wissahickon’s Jake Modelevsky turned away 36 of 44 shots he faced.
