ABINGTON GIRLS’ LACROSSE PREVIEW
Coach: Amanda Kammes 2nd year at Abington
Assistant coaches: Casey Kellogg, Jamie Wesztergrom, Caili Guilday
Last year’s record: 16-4 overall, 8-1 SOL with only loss to PW in conference.
Notable losses: Mikki Raymond to LaSalle, Emma Garg to LaSalle and Rachel Morris (not playing)
Key returners: Sam McGee Sr/A, Cathy Staerk Sr/M, Lindsay Baer Sr/A, Casey McCallister Sr/A, Maddie Sjoholm Sr/D, Jules Greceo Sr/A, Jordan Campbell Sr/D, Kiki Brasher Sr/GK
Others to watch: Sam Simon So/ M, Kaley Enhow So/ M, Lauren Van Buren So/ M, Abby Thomas So/A, Anna Joseph So/M
Strengths: Key returning core- multiple scorers and the heart of our D are all back. Multiple D1 and D2 recruits on current roster and strong youth contingent as a supporting cast! Our biggest strength, however, is our culture. It has changed wildly in the last year, and we still have a bad taste in our mouth about how 2016 ended at Owen J.
Question Marks: Can we deal with pressure and expectation? We didn’t have that a year ago. This year we do- whether it’s from ourselves or outside.
We have a MUCH improved schedule. Will we be able to handle this improved and strengthened schedule consistently?
Outlook:
The outlook for the Ghosts is good in 2017. We have a strong returning core coming back with a lot of experience. Two All-Americans in Sam McGee and Casey McCallister coming back as well as a strong defensive unit, and a first team all SOL Goalie- will hopefully keep us rolling over the next several months. We also have a much improved sophomore class that will play roles as a strong supporting cast and take the Philly area by storm this season. The 2017 season outlook is simple. We have unfinished business… a lot of it, and being good isn’t a surprise anymore at Abington, its an expectation.
