“Our program has come a long way, and Sarah Womer and Caroline McGovern had a lot to do with how our program has changed,” coach Lisa Belz said. “This season going undefeated in the league and making it to states was such a huge improvement, and I owe it to them for giving back to the program.
“They always go down, and they coach the younger players, and they make the younger players excited to come here. Just having people like that part of the program helps to build a positive environment so that more kids want to play and be a part of it.”

Caroline McGovern – Boston College (Field Hockey)
Major:
Business & Marketing
Final list of colleges:  Boston College, University of Pennsylvania, Syracuse, Duke
Reasons for choosing BC:  “I had such a wide list of schools, and I narrowed it down based on major and where I wanted to go. I knew I wanted to be in a city. That was something deep down that I always knew, no matter where I was visiting. Originally, I decided I was going to do nursing, which narrowed down my list even more.
“When it came down to the summer before I committed my junior year, I really liked how UPenn and BC were in the city. It was something I had my heart set on as soon as I set foot on BC’s campus.”
What was the progression that led you to playing field hockey at the collegiate level?  “I started playing because my older sisters all played, and when I was five, I tried out for my first team. My sister is 11 years older than me and also played at Boston College, and she was someone I always looked up to. I used to travel five hours to and from in one day to see her games every weekend. I almost never missed a game – me and my mom traveled to games all the time. Just seeing her and how successful her experience was and, at that point, my other older sister started looking at colleges, and I just knew from there that this was something that I really wanted to do. In eighth grade, I started contacting coaches.”
Coach Lisa Belz says:  “Caroline has advanced skills and a tremendous ability to score. She’s able to take it down the field and score in a matter of two seconds. She has just been an inspiration to our younger players. People want to come watch to see her play. She broke all the records at South – the most goals in a season (39), the most assists in a season and the most points in a season (87). She hit the career 100-goal mark, which was a big accomplishment.”
