Lauren Devin – University of Scranton (Lacrosse)
Major:
  Nursing
Final list of colleges:  Scranton, Catholic University, Delaware, West Chester
Reasons for choosing Scranton:  “I was originally looking at Scranton for their nursing program, and once I realized I wanted to play lacrosse in college, I contacted coach (Cindy) Wilson. As soon as I met her, I knew I wanted to be part of their lacrosse program. Coach Wilson runs such an amazing program. This is her fourth year, and they made it to the (Landmark Conference) finals last year, which is extremely impressive. When I went on my official visit, I met the girls on the team, and everyone was so positive and so nice. It was such a great environment, and I knew I wanted to be part of it.”
What was the progression that led you to competing in lacrosse at the collegiate level?  “I started playing lacrosse in third grade, and I progressed to eventually in fifth grade playing goalie. Once I started, I never stopped. I knew that’s where I needed to be.”
Coach Tara Schmucker says:  “Lauren has improved tremendously over the years and is going to be a very competitive collegiate player.  As a goalie, you are always overlooked, but it goes without saying that we would not have had the successful seasons without her.  She is a great communicator, has excellent stick skills for her position and has really stepped up her leadership as well.  Her save percentage is 51 percent, and that is impressive even for a collegiate goalie.  Lauren has the ability to make huge plays/saves for us and having her as our last defender gives our team a unique confidence.”

Rachel Shaw – Slippery Rock University (Lacrosse)
Major:
Undecided
Final list of colleges:  Slippery Rock, Pitt, Duquesne, St. Joseph’s, West Chester
Reasons for choosing Slippery Rock:  “Slipper Rock is out in Pittsburgh, and that’s where my grandparents live, so that was a nice factor. The student population is about 8,000 people, and that’s the perfect fit for me.”
What was the progression that led you to competing in lacrosse at the collegiate level?  “I started thinking about it my freshman year when I came to West and started playing lacrosse. My coach was encouraging of it, and after (playing at) CB West, I just fell in love with the sport.”
Coach Tara Schmucker says:  “Rachel is an example of a player where hard work pays off.  She worked diligently to earn her starting role two years ago, and even as a senior, she continues to look to improve.  She has developed into a great team defender and communicator.  As a defender you do not always receive recognition so you need a lot of intrinsic motivation, and she continues to push herself on the small things that help her team and that makes her a great leader.  She also has a contagious positivity and smile that has helped grow our positive culture over the years so we will miss more than her defense.”
