Jake Helwig – Ursinus College (Soccer)
Major: Computer Science
Final list of colleges: Ursinus, Juniata
Reasons for choosing Ursinus: “I really liked the soccer program there, and the academics are really good too.”
What was the progression that led you to competing in soccer at the collegiate level? “I always wanted to play since I started high school soccer. I was working really hard, and eventually, I was looking at colleges, and it just all worked out.”
Coach Don Brady says: “I have been privileged to coach him since he was U10, and he’s always been an intelligent player, very technical. In the past two years, he really emerged as a positive leader, and he played as a central defensive midfielder for us. As a junior, he scored a goal, and this year he scored six goals for us, but his physicality really grew in the past year. He had a strong presence in the middle of the field for us. I really never thought of him as a defensive-minded player because he always distributes and receives the ball well, but he played that role really well for us this past year.”
