Colleen Rodriguez – Duquesne University (Diving)
Major: Undecided/Business
Final list of colleges: Duquesne, West Chester, Delaware, La Salle, Wagner
Reasons for choosing Duquesne: “When I went on my visit – it was my last college visit out of all the colleges, and it was that feeling you get when you know this is where you want to be for four years. It was the best fit for me diving team-wise, financially and academically. The size of the school was perfect and also the area.”
What was the progression that led you to diving at the collegiate level? “I was diving since I was little. When I went into high school, I didn’t think much about diving in college, but after all of my achievements in high school – going to states my freshman year, medaling at states and my coach showing me I’m 100 percent capable of diving in college made me realize that I can make it at the college level, especially because I love doing it.”
Coach Bob Israel says: “Colleen was one of my very best team captains, which set her apart as a team member and diver. She had a great sensitivity to her teammates and was able to help them to achieve their potential while working hard to be the best diver she could be. This aspect of her personality provided her with the motivation to work very hard every day. She came ready every day to be better than she had been the day before. She was very focused on improvement for herself but also for her teammates, which helped motivate her to do better. She focused on her goals and was willing to do the work needed to achieve those goals. She also has talent and a willingness to take a challenge and work at achieving it.”
