HATBORO-HORSHAM GIRLS’ SOCCER
Head coach: Ike Onyeador (3rd Year as Head Coach)
Assistant coach: Nick Webster
Last year’s record: 8-7-3 overall, 7-4-3 SOL
Notable losses: Emma Roesing-MF (Academy), Miranda Royds-GK (Graduation), Ali Hontz-FW (Graduation)
Key Players: Erica Paluszek, Senior, Midfielder; Halie Freedman, Senior, Defender; Madalyn Falcione, Junior, Forward
Outlook: As the girls' soccer program enters its third year under head coach Ike Onyeador, only a playoff berth will be considered a successful season. With the graduation of all-league goalkeeper Miranda Royds, senior captain Halie Freedman will be counted on to lead the defensive effort as the only returning starter for the back line. This will include mentoring first-year varsity goalkeeper Siera Cruz.
On the offensive side, the loss of Emma Roesing to the US Soccer Development Academy system will mean that senior captain Erica Paluszek will need to add a goal scoring prowess to the 13-assist season she produced last year. Junior forward Madalyn Falcione will also be expected to contribute more goals this season.
Several promising youth players will also look to make their varsity debut this year. Sophomores Cam Hughes and Sarah Polesuk will look to see if they can continue their junior varsity scoring exploits at the varsity level, and freshmen Maggie O'Neill and Isabela De La Torre have shown promise during preseason training and are pushing to earn significant minutes.
Coach Ike has described the season as one with clear goals: "For this program, making the playoffs is the top priority. While we are missing some key components that could have helped us make achieving that goal a bit easier, the girls have shown that we make up for that bit of missing quality with pure desire to be successful. On another aspect, we have several young players who have been great to watch and it will be an exciting season getting the chance to develop them and prepare them to make significant contributions to the program."
