CHELTENHAM GIRLS’ SOCCER PREVIEW
Coach: Mark Woodcock (11th season)
Assistant coaches: Meredith Derico, John Stuetz
Last year’s record: 0-18 overall
Notable losses: Liza Becker, Amber Turner, Christina Morton
Key returners: Eliana Weiler (12th - GK), Jade Turner (12th - D), Zoe Moreland (10th - D)
Others to watch: Corinne Packel (11th - F), Julia Silberman (11th - F), Naomi Aires (10th - M)
Strengths/Question Marks: Relatively inexperienced squad and many remain untested against the type of teams we will be playing. Should be smart and quick however.
Outlook: “Led by returning seniors Eliana Weiler and Jade Turner, the Panthers are coming off a challenging season and one after which they lost 10 seniors. Many of the team will be new to this level with a number of freshmen likely to be part of the varsity squad and a handful moving up from junior varsity. With that in mind, the season will be defined by how quickly the new players can adapt to the speed and strength of the teams in our league, but with a high soccer IQ and considerable team speed from front to back, there is plenty to feel very positive about as we move forward.”
