Victoria Betterly – Christopher Newport University (Lacrosse)
Major: Undecided
Final list of colleges: Early decision at Christopher Newport
Reasons for selecting Christopher Newport: “Christopher Newport had everything I was looking for which included: medium sized, liberal arts, beautiful campus, great lacrosse program, located in Virginia on the beach.”
What was the progression that led you to competing in lacrosse at the collegiate level? “At first, I wanted to play soccer in college. I was on a club soccer team since I was in elementary school until sophomore year when I had a really good experience with my high school lacrosse team. At that time, I joined STEPS Elite, a local club team and started to look at colleges. It wasn't until the fall of junior year that my friend suggested CNU since he knew I loved the beach and thought I would fit in. Naviance also suggested CNU as my first school. It was the first college I visited for lacrosse. I liked the program, the coach, and the girls. It took three visits to realize CNU was the right school for me.”
Coach Ellen Reilly says: “Vic plays low attack, but due to our team injuries last year, Vic played every position - attack, midfield and defense. Wherever we needed her she played. That speaks for itself. She is a team player, she is strong and is willing to lay it all out on the line for her team. When Vic was young, she wanted to play soccer in college. The more she played lacrosse, the more she saw her potential and then chose to play lacrosse in college. Vic will be an asset to her team wherever they utilize her.”
