What to Watch For
Twelve local teams will be competing this Sunday, January 7, at Jefferson University in the 2018 Blue Star Showcase. Archbishop Carroll, Archbishop Wood, Cardinal O’Hara and Neumann-Goretti will be playing in the Jim Munn Memorial Bracket, while Episcopal Academy, West Catholic, Central Bucks South, Upper Dublin, Shipley, Germantown Academy, Westtown and Central Bucks West are featured in the Nancy Dougherty Memorial Bracket. The tournament also features some of the top talent and prospects from Delaware, New York, New Jersey and Maryland.
The Titans of C.B. South already scored wins this season over tough opponents like Upper Dublin, Council Rock North, Plymouth Whitemarsh and Souderton. Their biggest test may come Wednesday against Central Bucks West.
Six teams in the Philadelphia Catholic League have started league play off without dropping a contest: Archbishop Carroll, Archbishop Ryan, Archbishop Wood, Bonner-Prendergast, Cardinal O’Hara and Neumann-Goretti. PCL action will start to intensify next week with some big-time match-ups.
The top two squads in the Central League – Garnet Valley and Springfield (D) – face off this Friday.
Jenkintown shot out to a 9-0 record in dominating fashion, outscoring opponents by almost 39 points a game.
The first set of District 1 power rankings are out. West Chester Henderson earned the top spot in Class 5A with its 8-0 record, edging out Mount St. Joseph and West Chester Rustin.
