WISSAHICKON SOFTBALL PREVIEW

Head Coach: Mike Borkowski  4^th year at Wissahickon.

Assistant Coach: Mark Romagano

Last year’s record: 5-13 overall,  4-10 SOL American

Notable losses: 4-year starters C Michela Coleman (Ursinus) and 2b Zoe Trumbore

Key Returnees: Last year’s starters-- Seniors- P Sara Genell, RF Eryn Downey, Juniors- SS Macy Segal, CF Siani Paige-Miller, Sophomores- 1b Ashley Radell, LF Josie Johnston.

Others to watch: C  Rory Goodrich (So.), P Emma Clayborne (Fr.), 3b Kailyn Pappanastasiou (Fr.), 2b Steph Braun (Sr.)

Strengths: “For the first time in four years, we have two starting Varsity pitchers. We are very happy that we can play a full schedule this year because of Sara Genell and Emma Clayborne. In previous years, we had one pitcher and had to watch the schedule. We also have four JV pitchers. I also think we will hit better this year. Adding Pappa (Kailyn Pappanastasiou) and Emma Clayborne helps us a lot. Josie Johnston, Ashley Radell and Rory Goodrich are now sophomores and can all hit. We know Macey Segal and Siani Paige-Miller are good hitters."

Question marks: “We are young. Our opening lineup might only have one senior and two juniors. The rest are underclassmen.”

Outlook: We are young but talented. In previous years, we were worried about playing young players, but our freshmen varsity players are travel ball players. A lot of our returning players also play travel. This is a great group of girls that know what the word ‘team’ means. They are very easy to coach.  We are looking forward to having a good year and growing as a team.”
