PENNSBURY BOY’S VOLLEYBALL PREVIEW
Head coach: Justin Fee (15th year, 18th with the program)
Last years record: 12-0 League (SOL National Champions), 16-3 Overall (D1 Runner Up, PIAA Quarterfinalist).
Key Players:
#21 Sr. Libero – Charlie Bluestein. Charlie was 2ndTeam ALL SOL National and 2ndTeam All District One. He brings a lot of varsity experience to our team (3 years). He also is very close to breaking the career dig record at Pennsbury. He currently has 255 digs and needs 141 more this season to break the record of 395 digs set by Justin Mueller (2006-2009). Last season Charlie had 165 digs in our 19 matches for the season.
#6 Sr. Middle Hitter - Danny Quay. Danny was 3rdteam All SOL National. Danny will be playing volleyball in college next season. He has not made his mind up yet but has narrowed it down to Rutgers and Kean. Danny will be a huge asset for us this season both blocking, hitting and serving. He has taken his game to the next level and should be very dominant at times.
#27 Jr. Setter - Andy Delworth. Andy was 3rdteam All SOL National and 3rdteam All District One. Andy is an extremely intelligent kid that is truly learning how to set an offense. He has improved tremendously from last season making smart decisions and consistent in the location of his sets.
#18 Sr. Opposite – Brett Garretson. Brett has been in the starting line up in various roles since his sophomore season. This year Brett should be one of our go to guys. He is going to be a huge part of the success of our team this season.
#9 Jr. Outside – Justin Sadley. Last season Justin played opposite in the front row only and Brett Garretson came in for him in the back row. This off season Justin has greatly improved his overall game and has become a dominate attacker out of the front row and back row. We look forward to giving him a lot of opportunities to swing this year.
#14 Jr. Middle Hitter – Luke Bucksar. Last season Luke was a very strong JV player and has stepped in nicely to fill our other starting varsity middle hitter position. Luke is a solid overall middle with strong blocking and offense that is growing on a daily basis.
# 8 Sr. Outside – Kyle Faulcon. Last season Kyle gained a lot of varsity experience helping our two most dominate players, Sean Sweeney and Louie Bavas get a little rest. Now Kyle is getting his shot as a full time player.
Outlook: “It is always going to be difficult to replace two players that were first team All-District One and all state (Sean Sweeney, Louie Bavas), but that’s what we plan on doing this season. We were very outside heavy in terms offense and very dependent on those two last season.
“This season our younger more inexperienced players have grown and we plan on getting back to the roots of Pennsbury Volleyball. A team that still features solid play on the outside but with two quick middle attackers and a heavy presence of attack from the right side and out of the back row. I am looking forward to seeing how far we can progress a team.”
