BENSALEM 6, NORRISTOWN 2
Three pitchers – Stephen Aldrich, Nicholas Dean and Nick Fossile - combined to allow just four hits while Parrish and Keith Rooney had big days at the plate. It added up to a convincing win for Bensalem in its season opener on Friday.
Parrish was 2-for-3 with a double two RBIs and a run scored, and Rooney was 2-for-3 with a double and two runs scored. Leadoff batter Brian Swentkowski was 1-for-3 with a pair of runs scored, and Scott Rooney had a double.
On the mound Aldrich, who earned the win, started and threw three innings, allowing four hits and two runs (only one earned). Dean turned in a stellar three-inning stint in relief. The Owls took a 1-0 lead in the first on a sacrifice fly by Dean. They added a run in the second, but the Eagles scored a pair in the top of the third to knot the score. NORTH PENN 10, DUBLIN SCIOTO 4
The Knights pounded out 12 hits, scoring three runs in the first and opening up a 10-0 lead before Dublin scored four meaningless runs in the final two innings.
Rob Weiss led the Knights’ hit parade with a 3-for-4 effort that included an RBI and run scored. Jake Drelick was 2-for-2. Billy Collins had a pair of RBIs while Jake Morello and Atlee Hasson each drove in one run. Zack Miles had the Knights’ only extra base hit – a double.
In North Penn’s three-run first, Drelick’s one-out single was the only hit as the Knights benefitted from a walk, error and hit batsman. It turned out to be a preview of things to come. The Knights were on the receiving end of 10 free passes – seven walks and three hit batters. Dublin also committed three errors.
Joe Valenti earned the win on the mound, allowing only two hits and one run (unearned) in 5.1 innings. He walked a pair and struck out seven. AJ Patterson closed out the game.
