NESHAMINY 3, ABINGTON 1 (15-25, 26-24, 25-23, 25-22)
Ben McGonagle had a huge night at the net to lead the Redskins to the four-set win, finishing with 21 kills to go along with two digs. Steve Wenderlich added 16 kills, one ace and 12 digs, and Matt Schwab contributed nine kills, two blocks and six digs. Setter JD Palmieri had 32 assists to go along with one ace, four digs and two blocks. Also contributing were Tony Camillo (four kills, two blocks), Jesse Marshall (three kills, one block) Alex Swiderski (seven digs, three aces) and Colin Smith (two aces, one dig).
The Ghosts started the night with strong serving from TJ Dougherty (two aces, one kill, eight digs and 19 assists). The Ghosts’ defense was led by freshman Sean Dougherty with 19 digs, sophomore Danny Gonzalez with 12 digs, junior Jacob Brandt with seven digs and senior Charlie Viola with five digs. The offense was led by sophomore hitter Danny Gonzalez with 13 kills, senior Jason Lockhart with seven kills, junior Juan Perez with six kills and sophomore Peter Dougherty with six kills.
CENTRAL BUCKS WEST 3, CENTRAL BUCKS SOUTH 1 (25-21, 25-12, 22-25, 25-17)
The Bucks were led by a trio of big performances at the net in their win over the Titans. Setter Adam Klapper facilitated their big nights, dishing out 51 assists to go along with 16 digs in a stellar outing. On the receiving end of Klapper’s passes were Cole Nagle (17 kills, 10 digs), Austin Cervasio (12 kills, 5 digs) and Eli Gibson (13 kills, 14 digs). Jason Miller added 17 digs while Liam Baxter had six kills and Louis Weimer, five kills.
NORTH PENN 3, CENTRAL BUCKS EAST 2
The Knights handed the Patriots their first loss of the SOL season.
For the Patriots, Carter Haban had 17 kills, one assist, two aces, five blocks and eight digs. Dylan Colbert added nine kills, one assist, three aces and seven digs. Jacob LaBouliere (13 assists, three aces, one block) and Steve Storm (28 assists, one ace, six digs, four kills) split setting duties for the Patriots. Also contributing were Thomas Gallagher-Teske (3 kills, 4 blocks), Jack Miller (2 kills, 3 blocks, 1 dig), Pete Chiaravallo (1 dig) and Ryan Figus (2 digs).
UPPER DUBLIN 3, QUAKERTOWN 1 (13-25, 25-16, 26-24, 25-20)
The Flying Cardinals dropped the first set but went on to win the next three.
For the Panthers, Logan Spieker had another big night, finishing with 21 kills, seven digs and two blocks. Josh Moyer added seven kills, six digs and two blocks, and Nathan Barkholz had nine digs. Justin Flor finished with seven digs. Setter Zach Frei had 30 assists and eight digs. Seth Wesley (four digs) and Ryan DiCandilo (three blocks) also contributed.
SOUDERTON 3, DOCK MENNONITE ACADEMY 2 (25-19, 25-16, 15-25, 15-25, 17-15)
The Indians won the first two sets and appeared poised to make it a sweep of their neighboring rival, but that didn’t happen. Dock won the next two, and it came down to a riveting fifth winner-take-all set.
“It was a hard-fought match,” coach Dave Stastny said. “Both teams had their ups and downs, but it was a fun, competitive match.
“We had the momentum in the first two sets, and Dock had it in the third and fourth sets. The seniors showed good leadership. We also had good hustle plays throughout the match.
“It was an exciting fifth set. They stayed positive to finish strong and win the match.”
Ben Campman led the Indians with 13 kills and 12 digs. He also had a pair of aces. Matt O’Neil added 11 kills. Alex Zhang had 17 assists, and Jared Martin led the team with 15 digs.
EXETER 3, PENNRIDGE 0 (25-20, 25-19, 25-22)
The Rams played a tough Exeter squad, and while they hung tough, they could not steal a set from the perennial power.
Corey Quaste had 30 assists, seven digs and four aces. Cross Edwards (9 kills, 7 digs), Mike Molettiere (7 kills), Kevin Jones (6 kills) and Zach Detweiler (5 kills) all made contributions at the net. Danny Rutter and Jeremy Pruss both had five digs.
Pennridge is 6-2 on the season.
