It was not an especially nice spring day Wednesday. Unless, that is, you were a member of one of the six teams competing in the Regional Interscholastic Unified Track and Field Championships at Souderton Area High School.
Despite the rainy, chilly conditions, spirits ran high, and when it was over, Souderton had repeated as regional champion.
“The championship was a great culminating event to a terrific season,” Souderton athletic director Dennis Stanton said. “Many teams battled in tri-meets throughout the season, so we knew the championship was going to be close.
“We have awesome coaches in Michelle Cheyney, Bryan Fagan and Kate Pluchinsky, who do an amazing job with our Unified track team.”
Souderton emerged victorious from a field of teams from Montgomery and Bucks County that included (2) Spring-Ford, (3) North Penn, (4) Cheltenham, (5) Central Bucks East and (6) Palisades.
Souderton will return to the state championship meet at Shippensburg University to defend a state title it owns.
