UD's Gallagher & Sharp to Play Collegiate Softball

On Wednesday, May 23, 2018, Upper Dublin seniors Erin Gallagher and Sarah Sharp were recognized for committing to continue their softball careers at the collegiate level. Check back to view photos of the event.

“Both girls were captains this year, and for the first time ever, I hand-selected them because of their dedication and commitment in the offseason,” coach Heather Boyer said. “They both were leaders by example and treated their fellow teammates (whether seniors or underclassmen) with respect and helped to cultivate a positive atmosphere for everyone. I will definitely miss them both tremendously next year, both for their athletic ability as well as their leadership.”

Erin Gallagher – Rosemont College (Softball)
Major:
 Mathematics & Secondary Education
Reasons for choosing Rosemont:  “Location, size and opportunities”
What was the progression that led you to competing in softball at the collegiate level?  “I started thinking about it at the beginning of high school/end of middle school. I emailed coaches attending tournaments on my schedule and went to clinics.”
Coach Heather Boyer says:  “Erin is a selfless player.  She is a first baseman/third baseman at heart, but for the past two seasons, she has filled the role in the circle and assumed most of the pitching responsibilities for us because that was the most pressing need for our team.  Not once did she complain, nor put her own personal agenda in front of the team's goal. Instead, she put the team on her back, and courageously gave her best effort each and every time she took the mound. Erin truly demonstrated what it means to be a team player and served as a terrific role model for the younger players in the program.”

Sarah Sharp – Marywood University (Softball)
Major:
Nutrition/Dietetics
Final list of colleges:  Marywood, LIU-Post, Montclair State University
Reasons for choosing Marywood:  “They have the best program for what I want to study.”
What was the progression that led you to competing in softball at the collegiate level?  “I played travel softball from sixth grade until now, and I started looking at colleges and trying to decide what I wanted to do around tenth grade. My older sister also played in college, and getting to watch her made me really want to play in college too.”
Coach Heather Boyer says:  “Sarah is a player who takes great pride in her performance and her skill. She has worked tirelessly through the years to become the player she is now, and it is readily obvious that she is committed to being the best player she can be. Not only is she is a versatile hitter, but she is a terrific outfielder.  The coaching staff would often joke that we could never hit the ball over Sarah's head because she had such a great read on every ball that was hit off the bat.  She plays the position beautifully and has helped several underclassmen outfielders improve their games by working with them at practice ~ demonstrating her willingness to help others and be a good leader.”
