Souderton - 1
North Penn - 1
Souderton showed character in a game where they had to fight for the tie. Souderton started the game strong and had the advantage possession-wise. About halfway into the first half, a long ball over the top of Souderton's defense led to a miscommunication between the goalkeeper and center back, and an errant back-pass found its way into the net for the own goal.
Souderton was able to regroup and put up another strong defensive performance against North Penn's offense. Throughout the second half Souderton continued to posses and looked more and more likely too score. With about 6 minutes left in the game Sara Readinger hit a long driven shot towards the corner of the net. North Penn's goalkeeper parried it into a wall of on-rushing Souderton attackers and the ball fell to Sophomore Averie Doughty who was able to finish for her second goal in as many games.
The game went to overtime with a nervy finish. Both teams had chances to put the game away in the two overtime periods, but neither were able to apply the finishing touch needed to do so.
"The team started out strong and maintained possession throughout the field. Unfortunately, we had a miscommunication that resulted in an own goal. That can be a shock to a team, but I am proud of the girls for working hard and tying the game up in the second half." - Head Coach Lindsy Jones
"I was happy with the character the team showed. It's not easy going down when you feel like you have dominated the game. The team fought back hard to get the goal and I think they were unfortunate not to get a second. Overall a solid performance." - Assistant Coach Ian Smith
