Game 8 Souderton at Quakertown
Souderton - 1
Quakertown - 0
(After OT)
Souderton continued their good run of form at Quakertown on Tuesday evening with a 1-0 victory. The win did not come easy, as a resilient Quakertown defense forced Souderton into overtime despite Souderton's constant barrage of shooting.
Souderton came out strong and possessed the ball from the start of the match and was able to find space in the midfield for senior captains Sarah Readinger and Campbell Power to get off a number of dangerous shots. With 15 minutes left in the first half, Power let loose a long range effort that forced Quakertown's goalie into a difficult save. The rebound was pushed wide of the net as sophomore Averie Doughty crashed forward, but she was unable to apply the finishing touch and forced the ball just wide of the net. At the end of the first half, Souderton had outshot Quakertown 17-1, with 8 of those shots coming from Power.
The second half brought more of the same; Souderton controlled possession and continued to unleash shots from outside the 18. As the half wore on, Souderton grew increasingly frustrated against the well organized Quakertown defense, who seemed content on letting them shoot from range since the shots were not finding the back of the net. Souderton's frustration intensified, as Readinger pushed forward on an impressive solo run through the midfield, culminating in a shot that rocked the crossbar with 18 minutes left in the half. From that point forward Quakertown seemed to gain momentum, as Souderton resorted to throwing the ball forward without much purpose. The game was knotted a 0 after 80 minutes.
At the start of the first overtime period, Souderton was able to regain control of the match. They retained possession and threatened in the final third with some quick passing. With two minutes left in the first overtime period, senior Erin O'Keefe was able to control the ball in Quakertown's half and play a smart through ball to sophomore Hannah Alderfer as she made a run in behind Quakertown's defense. Alderfer was through on net with a defender trailing her as Quakertown's keeper came out to stop the ball. The sliding save found the goalkeeper on the ground while the ball rolled away to an onrushing Power, who was able to pass the ball through the traffic of bodies for the game winning goal.
