Lauren Ruth – University of Delaware (Soccer)

Major:  Nursing

Final list of colleges:  Delaware, New Hampshire, La Salle, Old Dominion

Reasons for choosing Delaware:  “I chose the school because it’s close to home, it has high level soccer, it’s a big school, and when I got there, everyone was really welcoming.”

What was the progression that led you to competing in lacrosse at the collegiate level?  “I realized early on I wanted to play in college. Some of my cousins had been D-I athletes, so I wanted to follow in their footsteps.”

Favorite high school sports memory: “My favorite memory would probably be coming back to beat LC. We were losing the whole game, and we came to beat them in the pouring rain. It was a good effort by everyone on the team, and it was really meaningful because the league I came from was the Philadelphia Catholic League, and they were always our biggest rivals.”

Coach Steve Whitby says:  “Lauren came to us from Archbishop Wood. Unfortunately, I only got to work with her one year, but it was awesome. Her grit, her determination, her passion for winning, her love of the game and her character are going to carry her through life, which are the most important things as we leave high school.
“We never spent a lot of time with words. We communicated mostly with our eyes, and it worked really well for us. We both knew what we were after, and she did terrific. She was first team all-league, and she’s getting the Golden Boot at our banquet for our leading scorer. I really wish her well at Delaware.”
