Brian Malinowski – Morgan State University (Football)
Major: Nutritional Sciences
Final list of colleges: Morgan State, Albany, Towson, West Virginia State
Reasons for choosing Morgan State: “I just felt at home on campus, and I loved the coaching staff. They were actually my first offer last year, and I committed in November.”
What was the progression that led you to competing in football at the collegiate level? “I didn’t start playing football until ninth grade. I played at Archbishop Ryan High School. I was supposed to be a basketball player, but their head coach, Frank McArdle – a great guy, saw me more as a football player, so he turned me into a defensive end and a tackle. Now I evolved into a tackle and played guard for the tail end of my career here.”
Coach Dan McShane says: “Brian was a nice surprise. He transferred over from Ryan for his junior. I know coach (Frank) McArdle, who’s a friend of mine, was not a big fan of him leaving, but it was good for us. Right away you saw his footwork, and he looked like a football player – the way he moved, and he plays with an edge. He plays with kind of a defensive lineman’s mentality. I like his approach. He’s a technician, and he really wants to learn and get better at his craft. Brian has measurables you can’t deny, and from there, all the intangible things – the work ethic, determination, resiliency and mental toughness.”
