Ellie Hughes – West Chester University (Lacrosse)
Major: Undecided
Final list of colleges: West Chester, Lebanon Valley, Rowan, Holy Family, East Stroudsburg
Reasons for choosing West Chester: “I chose West Chester because it felt like home, and it was the perfect proximity to home. It was great academically, and athletically it was competitive. That’s all I really wanted in a school. I love the coaches – they’re amazing people. Their love for lacrosse is amazing. It inspired me a lot when I was there.”
What was the progression that led you to competing in lacrosse at the collegiate level? “I started playing club lacrosse with a bunch of my neighbors and family friends, and we played AGLC. From there, it was let’s try out STEPS. I wasn’t sure I really wanted to play, and then freshman year when Brooke (Fritz) started talking about lacrosse and how much fun it is in college and we went to Syracuse camp, I was like, ‘I know I’m going to play college lacrosse.’ I knew it from the moment I stepped on the Syracuse campus. I was like, ‘I think I could play college lacrosse.’ I knew it.”
Coach Mary Elizabeth Klepper says: “Ellie is a team player. She is very coachable and also knows when to lift her teammates up with positive praise and feedback. She gives 110 percent and shows up ready to work and push herself. As a player, she seems to be able to always come up with key saves to keep us alive in a close game. Her heart is definitely in the game, and it's apparent both on and off the field. West Chester is lucky to have her.”
