SOL WELL REPRESENTED AT SOUTHEAST REGION

Council Rock South took a commanding lead in the SE Region team scoring Friday night at Souderton H.S. The Golden Hawks advanced eight wrestlers into the semifinals, and picked up bonus points along the way to amass 81.5 points. Sixteen other SOL wrestlers advanced to the semis as well, including all four wrestlers at 145-pounds, #1 seed Cam Robinson (CRN) will face Eric Woloshyn (CRS) and A.J. Tamburrino (William Tennent) is matched up against Evan Widing (Pennridge).
CR South’s Kyle Waterman appears headed for rematch with #1 seed Kyle Hauserman (CRN) at 106-pounds. Waterman will look to turn the tide, and get back on top of the podium Saturday. South’s Max Mendez is the man to beat at 113-pounds. He will battle Nathan Lucier from Coatesville. 120-pounds is loaded with talent, and most of the challengers come from the SOL. T.J. England (Tennent) gets a shot at returning state runner-up Killian Delaney in one semi. Delaney decked CR North’s Luke Lucerne quickly in the quarterfinals. Quakertown’s Corey Cope will battle #2 seed Shane Hanson-Ashworth (CRS). Cope downed D1 North champ David Forrest (Owen J Roberts) in opening round action with a 7-0 shutout. This weight class is stacked. Look for multiple medals in Hershey from our SE Region guys.
Neshaminy’s Colton Jordan remains almost unstoppable at 126-pounds, as he will take on a surprise semifinalist in West Chester Rustin’s Josh Viarengo. South’s Branden Ricchini decked D1 North champ P.J. Kakos (Perk Valley) to earn a semifinal match with returning state qualifier Corey Celenza from West Chester East. At 132-pounds, the SOL is everywhere. L.J. Kahn (CRS) is matched up against #1 seed Lukas Richie from Downingtown East. Neshaminy’s Zach Martin won in sudden victory, 7-5, over D1 South champ James Lledo (Lower Merion) in the first round and will tangle with returning state medalist Gunnar Fuss from Harry S Truman.
Souderton’s top seed at 138-pounds, Tyler Williams, will be challenged by a very hot Kibwe McNair from Methacton in the top half of the bracket. Williams has a tough road to become a Regional champ, as Antonio Petrucelli (OJR) will be waiting for him in the finals if he gets there. Williams, the SE Region runner-up last year, placed sixth in Hershey in 2018. The SOL will surely crown a champ at 145-pounds, and it looks like a potential rematch from the D1 East final will occur here, as Cam Robinson (CRN) is headed for a showdown with Tennent’s A.J. Tamburrino.
Tamburrino took out OJR’s Cole Meredith, the D1 North Champ 10-3 in the quarterfinals.
152 is also loaded with SOL grapplers, with Jackson Erb the top seed, looking at a potential finals tilt with the #1 ranked (PA Power Rankings) wrestler in the state, Owen J’s Daniel Mancini. Erb’s semifinal opponent will be Corey Showaker (CB South), who pinned his way through Friday night, with an impressive fall over Boyertown’s Bryce Breidor in the quarters. CR North’s Dillon Sheehey gets Mancini in the other semi here. Only the Golden Hawks Matt Colajezzi is left for the SOL at 160-pounds. He will face off against Owen J’s Connor Quinn who has been magnificent since returning to the mat for the Wildcats.
CR South’s Giani Gilch decked Wissahickon’s Dan Keller in the quarterfinals and matches up against Downingtown West’s Chase Mielnik in his semifinal bout. Wissahickon’s Brian Fennell advanced to the semis at 195-pounds and will take on top-seed Ethan Seeley from Great Valley. And down below in the other semi, Souderton’s Bruno Stolfi needs to beat rugged Jacob Miller (Boyertown) to get back to states for the second straight year.
Plymouth-Whitmarsh’s 220-pounder Paolo DiSanto positioned himself well to return to Chocolate Town, USA, as he seems primed and in top form. DiSanto will do battle with ‘Stoga’s Paul Pelham in semis. Pelhalm won in the ultimate tiebreaker 4-2 over Hatboro-Horsham’s Logan Flynn in the quarterfinals. Pennsbury’s Davis Lee was upset by bracket busting freshman Bill Brosko (Marple Newtown) 12-4 in overtime in the 220-bracket.
Undefeated Mason Novak (Upper Dublin) and John Klewin (Bensalem) both suffered their first losses of the season during Friday’s action. Novak (182-pounds) was defeated by fall by state medalist Tyler Mousaw from Unionville in the quarterfinals, and Klewin was decked by Garnet Valley’s super-soph Colton Deery in the heavyweight quarters. Wrestling will begin at 11:00am Saturday morning due to the inclement weather. The finals are slated for 7:00pm.
The SOL will have several past wrestlers and coaches inducted into the SE Region Wrestling Hall of Fame prior to the finals. The Class of 2019 includes Michael Chase (Wrestler/Official), Fred DiChiara (Coach), Glenn Kaiser (Coach/Contributor), Tommy Long (Wrestler) and State Champion JM Staudenmayer.
