COUNCIL ROCK SOUTH SOFTBALL PREVIEW

Coach:  Frank Marino 2 years

Assistant varsity:  Jackie Heim 1st year.  

JV head coach: Liz Potash 1st yr  

Last year’s record:  SOL 8-3,  Overall 14-5

Notable losses:

Key returners:

  • Karly Despirito 12th grade OF/IF
  • Alex Hopko 11th grade 3rd
  • Ally Kirschner 12th grade Catcher
  • Marissa Thompson 11th grade SS
  • Danielle Walters: 11th grade Pitcher
  • Olivia Zoldi:  12th grade OF

Strengths:   Core group of players who can play at a pretty high level. Strong pitching and strong defense. Speed and solid gloves in the OF. 

Question marks:  The roster is not built around power hitting where you can change the course of a game with one swing. We have a few big bats but will see how the season plays out.

Outlook:  “Our goal is to pick up where we left off last season. Compete to win our division in the SOL. We finished second last year and ranked #10 in the SOL. We are bringing back most of that core and added several key players to round out our roster. Ultimately, the goal is to find ourselves playing well after Memorial Day weekend battling in the state tournament.”
