Quakertown 4, North Penn 3
A Sean Brennan RBI single scored Brad Bryan with two outs in the bottom of the sixth, giving Quakertown a 4-3 win over North Penn in a SOL Continental game played at Memorial Park.
“It was a tough game against another quality opponent and we came up big,” said Quakertown coach Jon Pallone.
This back-and-forth game saw Quakertown jump up early with a Dennis Pierce home run. North Penn answered with a steal of home by Colby Chan in the top of the second.
The Knights looked to take control with two runs in the top of the fifth, one as Jeff Sabater stole home on a double steal and then Jake Morello’s RBI single scored Griffin Juckniewitz from third.
Quakertown, however, had an answer in the bottom of the fifth. An RBI double by Pierce scored Brennan, and Griffin Kelley later stole home to tie it up at 3.
Pierce had huge day at the plate, finishing the game 2-for-3 with a double and home run, 3 RBIs and one run. Bryan was 2-for-3 with a run.
On the mound, Cody Barberio went five innings, allowing three earned runs, before giving way to Pierce, who picked up the win with two scoreless innings of relief, allowing just one hit and one walk, while striking out three.
For North Penn, it managed just six hits in its third straight loss. Starting pitcher Jason Krause went five innings, allowing three earned runs on three hits and two walks, while striking out five.
The Knights (2-4, 0-2 SOL) are back in action Wednesday at first-place Souderton.
Quakertown (5-1, 2-1 SOL) hosts Central Bucks East on Thursday.

CB South scored 11 runs on 16 hits and its pitchers allowed just two hits for the game in a 11-0 rout of Pennridge on Wednesday.
The Titans were led by pitcher Brock Veit, who went 3-for-4 with a triple, two runs scored and an RBI at the plate. In 5 1/3 innings on the mound, he allowed just two hits and didn’t walk a batter, while striking out eight.
“Brock had a heck of a day on the mound and at the plate,” said CB South coach Brian Klumpp. “He did a great job of mixing his pitches and working ahead in the count. Any time you can have eight strikeouts with zero walks, you know you’re doing something right on the mound.”
Reliever Ryan Zakrewski recorded the final two outs in the sixth, as the Titans scored three times in the bottom of the sixth the finish the game off with the 10-run mercy rule.
Also for CB South, Jake McKeown went 4-for-4 with a double, two runs scored and a RBI. Jack Trachtenberg and Bryan Rossi each had two hits and an RBI as well. Andrew Wheeler had a two-run double.
“Our 1-4 hitters were locked in,” Klumpp said. “All had multiple hits. (Mike) Marino and (Zach Steinberg) did a great job in the fourth pushing across two runs with two outs to give us a solid lead.
“We played clean all around and it was a good bounce-back win for our guys after a 2-0 loss to Souderton (last Thursday). Every league win is big.”
Pennridge’s two hits came off the bats of Jimmy Petrik and Jack Goddess.

After jumping ahead by six runs at one point, Souderton hung on late to overcome a rough fielding game and defeat host Central Bucks East 9-7 on Tuesday.
Moses Clemens (2-for-3, 2 runs, 3 RBIs) and Jake Horton (2 RBIs) each had home runs for the Indians, who had nine hits total, four of which went for extra bases. Conlan Wall and Austin Jones also had RBIs for Souderton.
On the mound, Andrew Curran battled through adversity, allowing seven runs, but only one of which was considered an earned run over 5 1/3 innings. He scattered five hits and two walks and struck out three.
Eric Richie came on in the sixth, and struck out three over the final 1 2/3 to close out the game and pick up the save.
“Andrew Curran pitched well today even though we didn’t play well behind him,” said Souderton coach Mike Childs. “He did his job getting us ground balls and we have to do a better job fielding them.”
On the other side, CB East was led by Tyler Young, who went 2-for-4 with a double and three RBIs. Nick Bitsko, James Pello and Andrew Whinney also had RBIs.

Pennsbury 5, William Tennent 3
Trailing by a run, Pennsbury scored three in the top of the fifth and defeated William Tennent 5-3 in a SOL National Conference game.
“We were able to be resilient to come back and score those three runs,” said Falcons coach Joe Pesci. “We left runs on the field. Sometimes you have to win those close games. Things don’t go your way all of the time.
On the road, Pennsbury was able to jump up with single runs in the first and second innings. A two-out single by Sam Spadea drove in a run in the first, while in the second, also with two outs, Sean Doherty singled home a second run to make it 2-0.
Tennent took the lead with three runs in the bottom of the third. Chris Collelo doubled to start the inning, and after a sacrifice and a hit batter, Xavier Delgado made it 2-1 with a RBI single. After a walk, a triple by Alex Turbico put the host Panthers in front.
“They came out and scored those three runs,” Pesci said. “They jumped on (starter Christian Buchler). They had a lead-off double and a couple of hits.”
The game came down to the top of the fifth inning. A fielder’s choice ground out by Justin Fogel tied it at 3, Sam Ruta stole home to put the Falcons in front and then R.J. Huth roped a double to make it 5-3.
Buchler picked up the win for Pennsbury, going six innings, allowing the three earned runs on five hits, but he struck out 10. Sean Hochhausler pitched a scoreless seventh to pick up the save.
Offensively, the Falcons were led by Drew Hensor and Shane Marlin with two hits each.
Xavier Delgado led Tennent with two hits.
“Their pitcher, (Mike) Sheller did a good job,” Pesci said. “He did a good job of keeping us off balance. Xavier Delgado, I coached him in Carpenter Cup. He’s a good athlete and puts the ball in play.”
Pennsbury (6-2, 4-0 SOL) plays at Council Rock South in its next game on Thursday, while Tennent (3-2, 0-2 SOL) play at Neshaminy.

Neshaminy 8, Council Rock North 4
Four runs in the bottom of the first erased a rough start and sent undefeated Neshaminy on its way to a 8-4 win over visiting Council Rock North on Tuesday.
“I’ve said this before, we’re deep all the way through (the lineup),” said Neshaminy coach Dan Toner. “Some days, it’s (number) six, seven, eight and nine (in the batting order). Some days, it’s the top four. Some days, it’s everybody. That’s what we’ve been doing.”
It wasn’t just offense that stepped up, however. Starting pitcher Dan Errigo gave up two runs in the first, but it could have been worse, a runner was thrown out at the plate and Errigo picked off another runner to end the inning.
“We’ve been doing that all year,” Toner said. “Our pitchers have been lights out. Dan (Errigo) was a little off today, but we’ve been doing that all year, getting out of big innings, turning double plays and getting big outs. It’s huge for us that our defense has been solid. We have a lot of guys that have been playing well.”
With two outs in the bottom of the first, designated hitter R.J. Christie roped a two-run double to tie the game at 2. Neshaminy ended up sending 10 batters to the plate in the inning, with Matt Yauger and Josh Martoccio also picking up RBIs.
Neshaminy made it 6-2 with two runs in the third, with RBI singles by Martoccio and Cory Joyce.
Council Rock North crept to within 6-4 with two in the top of the fourth, as Eric Woodhead had an RBI single and Colin Manel scored one with an RBI ground out.
But after back-to-back hit batters, Errigo quashed the rally by inducing a groundout to shortstop Joyce.
Reliever Max Temple pitched three scoreless innings to keep CR North off the board the rest of the way.
Joyce added a RBI single in the fifth, as Neshaminy scored two more time to put the game away.
Contributing multiple hits for the Redskins were Joyce (2-for-4, 2 RBIs), Joe Kaleck (2-for-3) and Matt Yauger (2-for-4, RBI, 2 runs). Yauger and Martoccio both had a pair of RBIs.

Dom Grady was dominant on the mound, allowing just one hit and no run, scattering five walks and striking out six in Bensalem’s 3-1 win on Tuesday.
Grady threw 95 pitches, and allowed just a second-inning double by CR South’s Jon Pinciotti in picking up his first win of the season. Logan Young pitched the final two innings to close the game out and pick up the save.
The game was still scoreless heading into the fifth inning, and CR South’s Drew LaPolice was sharp as well. But in the fifth, Bensalem broke open for four runs, including bases loaded walks to Barnett and Austin Shay and then a RBI single by Nick Dean.
Pinch hitter Ayden Flint had an RBI single in the sixth for CR South.

Hatboro-Horsham 6, Springfield 1
Jackson Treski stepped up with a big performance on the mound for Hatboro-Horsham, which broke open a tie game with one run in the fourth and four in the fifth for a 6-1 win over visiting Springfield on Tuesday.
Treski, a junior, allowed just two hits – both by Springfield pitcher Morgan D’Amico – and one run, while striking out six. Ram Krishnamoorthy recorded one out in the sixth for the Hatters, and then Anthony Liott pitched a scoreless seventh to close out the victory.
“Our junior pitcher, Eric Thron, who has been outstanding for us, broke his ulna bone in his right forearm this weekend,” said H-H coach Pete Moore. “It’s devastating for him. He’s been one of our top hitters in the 5-hole for us and he’s been our top starter for us in league games for us.
“It happened on Saturday, and we knew we feel bad for Eric, but we also knew nobody in the opposing dugout would feel bad for us.
“It was interesting to see how our guys would respond without Eric, and Treski stepped up for us huge.”
Offensively, H-H was led by Jimmy Tooley and Anthony Bruno with two hits each, and both had RBIs as well.
In the fourth, a Tooley single broke the 1-1 tie, scoring Bradan Mallon. An inning later, the Hatters scored one on a sacrifice fly by Ryley Robinson, and the others crossed the plate on two passed balls and a wild pitch.
In the face of adversity, H-H found a way to pull out the win and at 3-1 remains in a three-way logjam for second place in the SOL American behind first-place Upper Dublin.Hatboro-Horsham (7-1, 3-1 SOL) will travel to Father Judge on Wednesday for a non-league game. Springfield (2-3, 1-3 SOL) is scheduled to host Upper Moreland on Thursday.

Plymouth Whitemarsh 3, Abington 2
Ben Mascio and Joey DiMaria engaged in a pitchers’ duel that saw visiting Plymouth Whitemarsh emerge with a 3-2 victory on Tuesday.
Mascio won his third straight start for the Colonials with a complete-game effort. In seven innings, he allowed just two earned runs on seven hits and one walk, while striking out nine. He threw just 91 pitches.
“Ben was outstanding for us again on the mound,” said PW coach Chris Manero. “He scattered hits and pitched very relaxed all day. He has been an early-season workhorse for us and came up big again.”
Offensively, PW scored two runs in the first and played from in front the rest of the way. Kevin Reilly had an RBI double to score Joe Jaconski, and later Mike Radzwilka scored on a wild pitch to make it 2-0.
A Kevin Worck triple for Abington cut the PW lead to 2-1 in the fourth, but the Colonials answered as Jaconski scored on a passed ball to make it 3-1 in the fifth. The Galloping Ghosts trimmed it to 3-2 on a RBI single by Burkhart, but that was where the scoring would end for the game.
Offensively, PW managed six hits, including two by Jaconski, who also played “outstanding defense” at shortstop according to his coach.
DiMaria was the hard-luck losing pitcher for Abington, going the distance in a 98-pitch effort, allowing just two earned runs, while striking out seven. He also went 2-for-3 with a triple, as did teammate Jordan Grimaldi.
PW (3-3, 3-1 SOL) is back in action with a huge game against first-place Upper Dublin on Thursday.
“We had a seven-day layoff due to our senior class trip,” Manero said. “So, coming out today after that break, and picking up a win, especially against a very good pitcher, was important.”
Abington (2-5, 1-4 SOL) hosts Wissahickon on Thursday.

With a week since its loss to first-place Upper Dublin, Cheltenham bounced back with a big win on Tuesday, scoring twice in the first and then holding off host Wissahickon by a 4-2 final score.
“Overall today, it was a great win,” said Cheltenham coach Tory Wergelis. “We had a week without a game after a tough loss to Upper Dublin, so it was great to shake that chip off.
“We knew we were up against a team hungry for a ‘W’ and (Wissahickon coach Andy Noga) would have his boys ready to go. Andy and I played together in high school, so I know how great of competitor he is and his coaching abilities speak for themselves with last year’s results.”
Starting pitcher Kieran Versaw-Barnes was outstanding for the Panthers, going the distance in a 97-pitch effort over seven innings. He allowed just four hits and two earned run, and did not walk a batter, while striking out nine.
Offensively, Ben Kaplan and Versaw-Barnes led the way with two hits each. In the first, after a Kaplan single, Versaw-Barnes had an RBI triple Alex Bugg made it 2-0 with a sacrifice fly to center field.
The Panthers then went up 3-0 as Lukas Nakkula scored from third on an error.
Wissahickon made it interesting with two runs in the bottom of the fourth. Brian Hynes started the inning with a single, and a Brian Menhardt double put runners on second and third with no outs. RBIs by Joe Hornig and Bobby McFarland scored both runners, but the Trojans’ rally ended there.
Cheltenham plated a key insurance run in the top of the seventh on a RBI single by Bugg to make it 4-2.
Cheltenham (3-2, 3-1 SOL) is tied for second in the SOL American and plays at Hatboro-Horsham on Thursday. Wissahickon (2-4, 1-3 SOL) plays at Abington.
