Pennridge's Hegen & Henry Commit to Play Collegiate Softball

On Thursday, May 23, 2019, Pennridge seniors Emily Hegan and Morgan Henry were recognized for committing to continue their softball careers at the collegiate level. Check back for photos of the event.

“It’s been a pleasure coaching Emily and Morgan for the past year,” coach Wendy Iadonisi said. “As a first-year coach, I think it’s difficult for them to get used to a new coach, but they did a really nice job for me.”

Emily Hegen – East Stroudsburg University (Softball)
Major:
Broadcast Communications
Reasons for choosing East Stroudsburg:  “I enjoyed the campus as well as the coach.”
What was the progression that led you to competing in softball at the collegiate level?  “I played for a showcase level travel softball team that helped a lot with the process. High school softball helped a lot as well.”
Coach Wendy Iadonisi says: “Emily Hegen was primarily our designated player along with third base as her secondary position. She came up big a lot of times this season in clutch situations when we needed it. We could always rely on her to put the ball in play. She did a nice job for us at third base also when she was in the field. I coached Emily back when she was 10 for part of the season at Deep Run for the select team. She was such a nice kid back then, and she’s really developed into a nice, mature young lady who also showed great leadership qualities both on the field and off the field, helping with underclassmen. I know that her skills on the softball field and her leadership qualities will help her have a successful career at East Stroudsburg. I wish both ladies the best.”

Morgan Henry – Susquehanna University (Softball)
Major:
Early Childhood Education
Reasons for choosing Susquehanna:  “It was the best fit for my athletic and academic career.”
What was the progression that led you to competing in softball at the collegiate level?  “I’ve played softball since I was little, and I love the sport.”
Coach Wendy Iadonisi says:  “Morgan was our starting first baseman. I knew she was a power hitter coming in. I had actually coached her when she was eight years old in intramurals at Deep Run, and she had talent way back when, so it’s not a surprise that she’s going on to continue her career in college. I think she’ll do an excellent job and develop even more as a player and a leader on the field. She was a captain for me this year and did a nice job with the underclassmen, showing her skills on the field and her leadership qualities on and off the field, so I’m confident she will have a great college career as well.”
