Boys
PENNRIDGE 2, HAVERFORD 0

The Rams picked up their second win in as many days, downing Haverford in the title game of the West Chester Henderson Labor Day Tournament on Saturday night. The win came on the heels of a victory over highly regarded Henderson.
“You think about what could be – now we’re 2-0 on the road to start the season,” coach Pete Valimont said. “Two out of our six non-league (games) we have wins already, and it’s only the first weekend.

“It was good competition. Haverford is a strong team in the Central League, and Henderson speaks for itself in the Ches-Mont. It’s a great way to start, good confidence. Fingers crossed that we can keep it going at our home opener on Tuesday.”
Ben Scary scored a goal on a direct kick that turned out to be the game-winner midway through the first half. Ten minutes into the second half, Aidan Castle found the net with an insurance goal.
“A ball came across, and Aidan was able to find it,” Valimont said. “He was on the back end, and he was able to bury it.

“It got a little sloppy. Haverford got frustrated and started to foul a lot, yellow cards left and right, but we kept our composure. We were able to get everybody in, get the ‘W’ and move on.”

Valimont credited the leadership of senior captain Dillan Natitus.
“He’s kind of the general who directs everyone,” the Rams’ coach said. “He’s been a four-year starter, and now he’s really taken over the reins as a leader and a captain. He’s done a great job.”

Pennridge 2-0 will host Upper Dublin in a non-league game Tuesday at 3:30 p.m.

“New Hope-Solebury was excellent tonight,” West coach Stefan Szygiel said. “They had a great game plan, and it was a really tight game.”
The Bucks’ coach credited sophomore Dan O’Toole for giving the team a spark.
“Dan O’Toole changed the energy and momentum for us in the second half,” Szygiel said.

NORTH PENN 6, GREAT VALLEY 2
The Knights put on quite an offensive show in Saturday’s opener.
Emily Varilla led the charge, connecting for a hat trick. It was Varilla putting the Knights on the board nine minutes into the contest with an assist from Landry Holt. Seven minutes later, Cynthia Sheehy scored, sending the Knights into halftime with a 2-0 lead.

The visiting Patriots scored to make it a 2-1 game 10 minutes into the second half, but Varilla connected on her second goal to give the Knights their two-goal advantage. A Liz Urban goal upped the Knights lead to 4-1 before the Patriots found the net to trim that lead to two. Goals by Varilla and Kloey Carminati closed out the scoring.
North Penn (1-0) will host Wilson West Lawn in a non-league game Tuesday.
Great Valley    0-2   2
North Penn     2-4   6

CUMBERLAND VALLEY 3, CENTRAL BUCKS WEST 1
Coach Mike Moyer knew his team would be in for a challenge when it took on perennial District 3 power Cumberland Valley in its league opener on Saturday.
“I will never shy away from competition and starting the season off with the best team from District 3 gave me a sense of how much we need to do to improve,” the Bucks’ coach said. “We played really bad today. For whatever reason we just didn’t have it. We were slow, not connecting passes, and just flat.”
The Eagles took an early 1-0 lead, but four minutes later, the Bucks evened the score on a goal by Shea Lubin.
“Shea was able to poke in a loose ball in front of the box to make it 1-1 at half,” Moyer said.
We dominated the second half. Their first shot on goal went in and we had to play catch up. We couldn’t score or generate good offensive plays to get us on the board. Their midfield and backs were very good and their keeper made some great saves.

“We can’t play any worse than we did today so on a positive note we should be able to compete with anyone. On the flip side, we need to be better and play with a sense of urgency. Hopefully, the girls will be ready Wednesday when we open up league play with East.”
Central Bucks West (0-1) will host Central Bucks East in Wednesday’s SOL opener at 3:45 p.m.
Cumberland Valley  1-2   3
Central Bucks West  1-0   0
