North Penn - 1
Souderton defeated North Penn for the second time this season, as they visited the Knights on their home field Thursday afternoon. The Indians got the early goal in the match, but were forced to fight for the winner, as North Penn pushed for a result on their home field.
Souderton's first goal came five minutes into the match. The Indians won a thrown-in high up the field. The ball was worked across the box and eventually fell to the forehead of Averie Doughty, who was able to nod the ball down for Taylor Yoder to finish from close range.
North Penn responded, almost immediately, as they forced Souderton's goalkeeper Morgan Molyneaux into a strong save. The Knights then capitalized on the ensuing corner kick, as an unmarked attacker directed a header towards the corner of the net for the equalizer. The Indians, who started well, found themselves immediately scrambling for the lead again.
As Souderton pushed for the go ahead goal, they were able to create some of their own dangerous chances of corner kicks. With 22 minutes left in the half, the Indians got back-to-back chances that were saved well and cleared off the line in a frantic defensive effort. After getting more and more pressure off of corner kicks, Souderton pushed to get a goal before half time. With 6 minutes left in the half, Avery Nogami was able to get under a punt from North Penn's goalkeeper and head it forward to Doughty. Doughty was able to flick the ball forward and in behind North Penn's defense for Yoder to run onto. Yoder was able to collect the ball into the box to put the Indians ahead 2-1.
Yoder's second goal proved to be the game-winner, but there was no shortage of chances in the second half. Yoder had a chance at a hat trick right off the tap, but hit it just over. Hannah Alderfer had a few chances to get a third goal as well. Towards the end of the half, North Penn began throwing numbers forward in an attempt to get a second goal to tie the game, but Souderton's defense held strong. The Indian's goalkeeper, back line, and defensive midfield were up to the task, and were able to keep the surging Knight's attack at bay to hold on for the win.
