SOL National Conference
PENNSBURY 3, COUNCIL ROCK NORTH 1 (22-25, 25-23, 25-13, 25-21)
In a battle of SOL powers, it was the Falcons earning the win to clinch sole possession of the conference crown. The Indians entered Friday’s showdown with just one conference loss, and they took the first set. The Falcons responded by winning the next three. A Rock North win would have set up a tie atop the standings, but the Falcons took care of business.
Pennsbury junior setter Carissa Van Veen hit a personal milestone in the match, surpassing the 1,000-assist mark. She finished the match with 23 assists, four service aces, one kill and six digs.
“We’re very proud of her,” coach Michael Falter said.
Senior outside hitter Elley Torres turned in a monster performance, finishing with 26 kills (.306 hitting percentage), 11 digs, two solo blocks, two block assists and one ace. Junior Izzy Marinelli also had a big night, contributing 15 kills (.433) and four digs. Setter Abbie Drewes had nine digs and one ace, and Brooke Burns had six digs, one block assist, one kill and one ace. Ashley Parry added eight digs and three kills. Bria Mullaghy had nine kills and two aces, and Maggie Golder added 19 assists and four digs.
For the Indians, Mary Baniewicz (12 kills, 12 digs, one block, one ace) and Ashleigh Adams (11 kills, 24 digs) both finished with double-doubles to lead the way. Cora Lake added seven kills, five blocks and two digs. Julia Walton had six kills, four aces, two blocks and three digs, and Abby Jones had three kills, two blocks and one dig. Kylie Tinner and Sydney White combined for 31 assists.
COUNCIL ROCK SOUTH 3, CENTRAL BUCKS EAST 0
The Golden Hawks celebrated Senior Night with a sweep of the Patriots. Prior to the match, seniors Ariana Ranieri, Katie Marsh, Olivia Buonomo, Lauren Dougherty and Gianna Hollister were honored.
Dougherty led the Hawks at the net with nine kills and six blocks, and Ranieri had six kills and one ace. Buonomo had four kills and one ace, and Marsh added three kills. Setter Ava Paulson had 14 assists and three aces. Katie Rodman had three aces and several digs.
For the Patriots, Vivien Agassi led the way with 13 kills, five digs and one ace, and Ava Napoletano had 10 kills and one dig. Anna Ritter (14 assists, five digs, one kill) and Sophia Mettille (11 assists, one block, one dig) split setting duties. Morgan D’Angelo led the defense with 22 digs, one ace and one kill, and Abby Killough added nine digs. Chloe Mettille had eight digs and one kill. Maddy Lacouture had two kills and one block, and Aimee Wolf had one kill and three blocks. Caroline Eldringhoff had one kill and two blocks, and Kaylynn Bryan contributed with consistent serving and defense.
WILLIAM TENNENT 3, HARRY S TRUMAN 2
The Owls dug themselves out of a 2-0 hole, winning three sets in a row to eke out the hard fought win.
Setter Crystal Dang had a career high 41 assist and the match-winning kill. Zariah Prescott (14 kills) and Sydney Bawuah (12 kills) led the attack. Dejah Howe added seven kills.
“She came up huge and helped turn the momentum of the match,” coach Tim Linehan said of Howe.
Maddie Buechner (five kills, five aces) and Ivanka Dolinskaya (five kills) also made big plays at the net. Yasmine Patel and Emma LoStracco led the Owls defensively.
Bensalem finished its season with a 5-17 record.
CENTRAL BUCKS SOUTH 3, WILLIAM TENNENT 0
The Titans earned a sweep of the Panthers in the regular season finale.
The Panthers did not keep stats for the match.
“We just wanted to have fun and watch our seniors play one more time,” Tennent coach Brian Bassler said. “Our girls grew up so much over the past four years.
“CB South can really pound the ball, and our girls just played amazing defensively. It led to a lot of long rallies and it was good, fun volleyball. We will miss this group a great deal and we wish all the SOL teams advancing into the playoffs well.”
