MEN’S BASKETBALL
Ithaca College senior Riley Thompson (Council Rock North) was named Liberty League Performer of the Week for the week ending Nov. 17. Thompson averaged 24.0 points during the opening weekend of the basketball season as Ithaca went 1-1 at the Elmira Tip-Off Tournament. Thompson was named to the all-tournament team as he scored 29 points to open the season and 19 points in the second game of the weekend. Thompson shot 18-for-33 overall (54.5 percent) and 7-for-13 (53.8 percent) from three-point range.
Thompson scored the game-winning basket with a three-pointer with 2:50 left in regulation to give Ithaca a 75-73 lead in the Bombers 77-74 victory at SUNY Cortland on Tuesday. The CR North graduate ended the night with 14 points.
Freshman Robbie Heath (Abington) scored a team-best 20 points and grabbed eight rebounds in West Chester’s 72-67 win over Gannon on Saturday. In Wednesday’s 82-74 win over Goldey-Beacom, Heath scored a career-high 31 points and also had a team-high eight rebounds. In Monday’s 98-85 win over Holy Family, Heath had 26 points.
Senior Tracy Simsick (Souderton) had 13 points in DeSales University’s 86-65 win over Rosemont College on Saturday. In last Saturday’s 75-72 win over Alvernia in the title game of the Quality Inn Tournament, junior Mike Bealer (Souderton) scored four points after scoring 21 points in DeSales 95-88 win over Wesley the preceding day. The Souderton grad was named to the all-tournament team. In DSU’s 95-88 win over Wesley, Bealer scored the final 12 points in a 16-0 run that gave DeSales an 11-point advantage. Simsick hit 5-of-6 from the charity stripe down the stretch to ice the win and finished in double figures with 11 points. In DeSales’ 92-79 victory over Muhlenberg, Simsick led all scorers with a game-high 25 points, shooting 9-for-13 from the field.
Delaware Valley junior forward Damian Washington (Upper Moreland) was named the Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Freedom Defensive Player of the Week. In the Aggies 77-66 win over Penn State-Berks, Washington recorded six defensive rebounds, three steals and two blocks to fuel a second-half comeback that saw Del Val erase a 48-33 halftime deficit. Late in the second half, Washington picked off a pass and sprinted the other way for a breakaway dunk to put an exclamation point on the victory. Offensively, he added 16 points on 5-of-6 shooting from the field, including 2-of-3 from beyond the arc and went 4-for-5 from the charity stripe.
Washington hit a career-high with a game-best 27 points on 10-of-17 shooting from the field and four-of-five from the line in Delaware Valley’s 88-77 loss to Gettysburg on Saturday. In Wednesday’s 70-56 triumph over Lebanon Valley, Washington finished with 11 points, six rebounds, three assists, two steals and a block. In Delaware Valley’s 74-72 loss at Muhlenberg, Washington finished with 16 points, nine rebounds and three assists.
Senior John Ryan (William Tennent) scored 13 points in Penn State Abington’s 92-77 win over Arcadia on Saturday. In Tuesday’s 68-67 win over Immaculata, Ryan converted a last-second layup for the game-winner.
Will Derr (Upper Dublin) had a team-high eight rebounds in Arcadia’s 92-77 loss to Penn State Abington on Saturday. In Tuesday’s 75-63 loss to Gwynedd Mercy, Derr contributed 11 points and eight rebounds. In last Saturday’s 86-73 victory over Immaculata, Derr scored 11 points and also had six rebounds. In Arcadia’s 75-65 defeat of Susquehanna, Derr had eight rebounds.
Redshirt junior Max Wagner (Pennridge) poured in a career-high 32 points to lift Bloomsburg to an 85-77 victory at Seton Hill on Sunday. The Pennridge grad, who had 18 points in the second half, was 13-of-16 from the floor and was a perfect 6-for-6 from the foul line en route to his career-high 32. He also pulled down a team-high seven rebounds, blocked three shots and recorded a pair of steals. In Tuesday’s 101-88 win over Chestnut Hill, Wagner had 16 points, six rebounds, two steals and two assists in limited minutes. In last Saturday’s 84-83 win over Felician, Wagner led the Huskies with 20 points on 9-of-13 from the field and tied for the team lead with eight rebounds.
WOMEN’S BASKETBALL
The University of the Sciences senior Jordan Vitelli (Central Bucks South) was named the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Player of the Week for the week ending Nov. 17. It is the third time the South alum has received the honor. Vitelli scored in double figures in all three of USciences’ games, leading all players in scoring in two as she averaged 17.7 points to go along with 5.0 rebounds per contest. The week was highlighted by her first career double-double against Assumption. She also had five assists and four steals. The senior fell two points shy of a game-high with 13 in USciences’ win at Bloomsburg, and she also recorded both a career and game-high four steals. Vitelli then led all players with 17 points and a career-high 10 rebounds in the win over Assumption. She closed out the week by leading all players in scoring in a four-point loss to regionally-ranked Stonehill, pouring in 23 points on 9-of-17 shooting. Vitelli also surpassed the 1,000-point mark, the 19th player in program history to reach that milestone.
The University of the Sciences senior Mikaela Giuliani (North Penn) won her second CACC Defensive Player of the Week award for the week ending Nov. 17. Giuliani had a block in all three games, recording five for the week, while also adding three steals. She grabbed 10 defensive boards, part of averaging 4.7 rebounds per game. The senior blocked a game-high three shots and grabbed four defensive rebounds in the win over Bloomsburg. She then had two steals and a block to go along with three defensive boards in a victory over Assumption. Giuliani ended the week with another block and another steal along with three more defensive rebounds in a four-point loss to Stonehill.
The University of the Sciences junior Irisa Ye (North Penn) won her first career Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Defensive Player of the Week award for the week ending Nov. 10. The North Penn grad has now won all three weekly awards that the conference hands out – Player of the Week, Rookie of the Week, Defensive Player of the Week. Ye totaled 11 defensive rebounds, three steals and a block as USciences opened its season with back-to-back wins over nationally-ranked opponents. She also averaged 17.0 points and 6.0 rebounds per game. Ye began the year with game-high 20 points and three steals in the season-opening win over Bentley. She tied a career high by falling one rebound shy of a double-double in the victory over No. 19 LeMoyne, adding 14 points, two assists and a block while shooting 5-of-9 from the floor.
Vitelli connected on 5-of-8 shots from beyond the arc en route to leading all players with 22 points in No. 18 University of the Sciences 62-43 win at Molloy on Saturday. She also grabbed a team-high seven rebounds. Ye added 10 points and a game-high four assists. Jess Huber (North Penn) had nine points, four rebounds, three assists, two steals and two blocks. In last Sunday’s 65-61 loss to Stonehill, Vitelli led all players with 23 points, including the 1,000th point of her career. Ye added 15 points to go along with a team-high seven rebounds and a game-high three steals. In last Saturday’s 49-43 win over Assumption, Vitelli notched her first career double-double with 17 points and a career-high 10 rebounds. The senior made four three-pointers to move into fourth in program history with 205 for her career. Ye added 16 points and led USciences with four assists and two steals. Giuliani had two steals and was second on the team with five boards. Huber added seven points. In USciences 61-51 win over Bloomsburg, Ye had 14 points, five rebounds and three assists. Vitelli added 13 points, three assists and game and career-high four steals. The senior made three three-pointers to become the fifth player in program history to surpass 200 for their career. Giuliani had five rebounds and three blocks.
Freshman Brooke Mullin (Neshaminy) contributed nine points, three rebounds, one block and one steal in Villanova’s 73-66 win over Fordham last Sunday. Sam Carangi (North Penn) saw 24 minutes of action off the bench.
Senior Allison Chernow (Upper Dublin) had 12 points on 5-of-7 shooting and doled out a season-high seven assists in Emory University’s 88-54 drubbing of Pomona-Pitzer College on Saturday in the team’s final game of a California road trip. In Friday’s 64-54 loss to Claremont-Mudd-Scripps, Chernow had her first double-double of the year with 12 points and a game-high 10 rebounds as she played the entire length of the contest. In last Sunday’s 77-49 win over Colorado College in the final game of the Emory Holiday Inn Tip Off Classic, Chernow poured in 10 points in a team-high 28 minutes. In Emory’s 52-39 win over the University of Lynchburg, Chernow had nine points.
Sophomore Lauren Fortescue (Plymouth Whitemarsh) contributed eight points and four assists in Salisbury’s 61-48 loss to No. 14 Marymount (Md.) on Wednesday. In last Sunday’s 80-34 win over Mt. Aloysius, Fortescue led the team with 18 points to go along with five rebounds, three assists and a steal. In Salisbury’s 75-59 loss to No. 13 DeSales, Fortescue had eight points and three assists. In Salisbury’s 63-57 loss to Widener, Fortescue tallied a career-high 20 points while shooting 54 percent (7-for-13) from the field and 57 percent (4-7) from beyond the arc. She also recorded a team-high five steals and three assists to go along with two rebounds.
Cabrini University junior Lexi Edwards (Central Bucks South) was named to the Atlantic East Conference Honor Roll for the week ending Nov. 17. Edwards paced the Cavalier offense on the week as she averaged 11.7 points per game across their three victories while shooting 87 percent from the charity stripe. She highlighted her week with an 18-point showing in the Cavs 61-54 victory over Eastern while she added four rebounds and four assists.
Edwards contributed 18 points after finishing 7-of-12 from the field in Cabrini’s 74-65 victory over New York University on Saturday. In Thursday’s 72-56 loss to Elizabethtown, freshman Miranda Liebtag (Abington) had eight points. In Cabrini’s 68-47 win over Osprey, Edwards had eight points. In Cabrini’s 61-53 victory over Pitt-Greensburg, Edwards had nine points.
Samantha Brusha (Abington) went 4-of-9 from the field and tallied two three-pointers to reach her first double-digit scoring effort of the season with 13 points in Millersville’s 87-69 loss to Gannon on Sunday.
Lizzie Oleary (Abington) contributed seven rebounds and four points in Delaware’s 67-64 loss to Delaware State.
Sophomore Taylor O’Brien (Plymouth Whitemarsh) contributed 10 points and five rebounds in Bucknell’s 72-61 loss to Temple on Wednesday. In Bucknell’s 76-69 loss to Quinnipiac, O’Brien had six points off the bench.
Freshman Megan Bealer (Souderton) contributed eight points and six rebounds in DeSales University’s 79-41 win over Lebanon Valley last Saturday.
Senior guard Makenzie Mason (Central Bucks West) shared a game-high with 17 points and also had 15 points in No. 3 University of Scranton’s 77-69 win over King’s College on Saturday at the Cross-County Challenge. In Scranton’s 91-74 win over Gwynedd Mercy in the championship game of the Gwynedd Mercy Tip-Off Tournament, Mason finished had a double-double with 16 points and 13 rebounds.
Freshman Alexa Brodie (Central Bucks South) had 11 points in Colgate’s 90-69 thumping of Canisius on Wednesday. In last Saturday’s 70-67 win over Yale, Brodie drove the lane for the go-ahead layup in the final minute of overtime. The CB South grad finished with six points.
Cassidy Quattro (Hatboro-Horsham) scored a team-high 12 points in Washington College’s 67-55 loss to Ursinus College on Thursday.
Taylor Dunn (Central Bucks South) had a team-high 19 points to go along with six assists, four steals and three rebounds in Arcadia’s 59-55 loss to Rutgers-Camden on Saturday. In Tuesday’s 90-88 victory over Gwynedd Mercy in the 2019 edition of the Battle of Route 309, Dunn had a team-high 23 points, six assists, two blocks and four steals.
Lydia Konstanzer (Pennridge) finished with eight points and nine rebounds in Ursinus College’s 68-43 loss to Haverford on Saturday. In Thursday’s 67-55 win over Washington College, Konstanzer contributed 15 points and 12 rebounds for her second double-double of the season. In the Bears’ 75-64 loss to No. 3 Scranton, Konstanzer led the Bears with 19 points.
Freshman Haley Meinel (Central Bucks South) tallied a team-high 14 points to go along with five rebounds in Jefferson University’s 65-61 loss to Kutztown on Tuesday. Senior Alynna Williams (Plymouth Whitemarsh) totaled 11 points, four rebounds and four assists. In last Sunday’s 70-56 win over West Chester, Williams scored a team-high 16 points and added five rebounds. Junior Sabria Lytes (Harry S Truman) added 12 points and seven rebounds. Meinel contributed nine points. In Jefferson’s 59-48 loss to New York Tech, Lytes grabbed nine rebounds and added six points and two blocks, and Meinel had six points and four steals.
Freshman Tamia Wessels (Abington) grabbed a team-best seven rebounds and added nine points in Gwynedd Mercy’s 97-83 loss to Moravian on Saturday. Freshman Haley Crossley (William Tennent) registered nine points, six boards, two steals and two blocks. In Tuesday’s 90-88 loss to Arcadia, Marissa Sandone (Souderton) had eight points while Crossley had six. Both had seven rebounds. In the Griffins’ 103-73 win over Pitt-Bradford, Crossley came off the bench to net a game-high 20 points on 8-of-10 shooting. Wessels contributed 15 points. In Gwynedd Mercy’s 107-75 loss at King’s, Wessels had a team-high 14 points and Sandone added a career-high 12. Crossley was one rebound shy of her first collegiate double-double as the freshman totaled 13 points and nine rebounds.
Widener senior Devan Rimmer (Pennridge) was named MAC Commonwealth Offensive Player of the Week for her performance in the St. Mary’s Tip-Off Tournament. The Pride went 2-0, defeating St. Mary’s and Mary Washington. Rimmer led the Pride in scoring in both victories. In a 72-43 win over St. Mary’s (Md.), Rimmer scored 16 points and added six rebounds, two steals and an assist. In a 72-69 win over Mary Washington, the senior scored 22 points on 7-for-11 shooting. Rimmer scored 10 of her points in the final six minutes to hold off Mary Washington. She was named to the all-tournament team.
Rimmer had 16 points in Widener’s 85-76 overtime win over Rowan on Saturday. In Widener’s 63-57 win over Salisbury on Thursday, Rimmer posted 14 points.
Senior Gabbi Wright (Cheltenham) scored a season-high 16 points to lead Kutztown to a 57-39 victory at Clarion on Saturday. Wright, who doubled her highest scoring output (8) so far through the first four games, finished 7-of-9 from the floor as KU as a team shot 36.1 percent overall.
Junior Payton Spadaccino (Council Rock South) had seven points in Bloomsburg’s 70-58 win over Chestnut Hill on Wednesday.
MEN’S CROSS COUNTRY
Penn State Abington sophomore Ben Hoyer (Wissahickon) completed the 8k course with a time of 29:11 to finish 231st at the NCAA DIIII Mideast Regional last Saturday.
Villanova senior Casey Comber (Hatboro-Horsham) posted a time of 32:28.9 and placed 162nd at the NCAA Championships on Saturday in Terre Haute, Ind. In last Friday’s NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional, Comber placed 13th out of 175 competitors with a time of 30:31.9. Villanova captured the team title and clinched an NCAA Championship berth. For his performance, Comber earned all-region honors for the fourth straight year.
Saint Joseph junior Matthew Scarpill (Central Bucks South) finished 49th with a collegiate-best 10k time of 31:38.3 at the 2019 NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional Championship held at Lehigh University’s Goodman Campus last Friday. St. Joe’s finished 11th out of 25 teams.
Ursinus senior Daniel Powell (Central Bucks East) placed 13th with a time of 10:01.28 at the fifth annual Fall Twilight meet.
Gwynedd Mercy freshman Thomas Balla (Bensalem) was named to the 2019 Atlantic East Conference second team. Balla finished 12th at the Atlantic East Championships.
WOMEN’S CROSS COUNTRY
Gwynedd Mercy sophomore Emily Stewart (Upper Dublin) was named to the 2019 Atlantic East Conference All-Conference second team. The UD graduate placed 10th overall at the Atlantic East Championships. As a team, Gwynedd Mercy finished second to Marywood.
FIELD HOCKEY
Lebanon Valley junior Rachel Kagarise (Souderton) was named to the 2019 Middle Atlantic Conference Fall Sportsmanship Team. One student athlete from each sport was nominated by their coach for inclusion on the team, which recognizes student athletes who exemplify great character and demonstrate the act of sportsmanship both on and off the field of play. They represent their team, institution, and the conference with high integrity and exhibit respect for themselves, teammates, coaches and opponents.
Ursinus College senior Erin Saybolt (Souderton) was named to the All-Centennial Conference second team. Saybolt’s decorated career concludes with a third All-CC honor. The 2016 rookie of the year, who started every game since her debut, was third on the team with nine goals and five assists, running her overall tally to 31 goals and 15 assists. She played her best in some of the biggest games of the year, tallying a goal and an assist against No. 2 TCNJ and dishing and two helpers against eventual CC champion Johns Hopkins.
FOOTBALL
Malcolm Carey (Bensalem) had 156 rushing yards and two touchdowns in Alvernia’s 49-28 loss to Misericordia in the season finale last Saturday. He also finished with four receptions for 19 yards. Carey became a 1,000-yard rusher on the season.
Worcester Polytechnic Institute sophomore Brendan Olexa (Upper Moreland) was named to The New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) 2019 Football Academic All-Conference team. Honorees must have earned a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.5/4.00. Olexa, a chemical engineering major, boasts a GPA of 3.60.
Sophomore running back Malik Bootman (Upper Dublin) rushed for a career-high 208 yards on 34 carries in Albright’s 28-23 win over Lebanon Valley last Saturday. Lucas Roselli (Upper Dublin) had a 12-yard touchdown run that gave the Lions a 21-10 lead. Junior safety Armon Jefferson (Abington) had an interception in the end zone.
Reece Udinski (North Penn) completed 20-of-36 pass attempts for 214 yards and two touchdowns in VMI’s 31-24 win over Chattanooga on Saturday. In last Saturday’s 47-6 loss to Army, Udinski finished with a 22-of-34 passing effort and 218 yards. Udinski now has 10 200-yard passing games on the season, breaking the school record nine set by Al Cobb in 2014.
Ursinus College senior Jack Spingler (Neshaminy) was named Centennial Conference Defensive Player of the Week for the week ending Nov. 16. The senior safety had two interceptions, including one at midfield in the fourth quarter as Dickinson was driving and down only eight points in the Bears’ 27-19 victory. The co-captain also had four tackles, broke up a pass and recovered a last-ditch onside kick by Dickinson in the final minute to cement Ursinus’ win.
Thomas Garlick (Quakertown) completed 22 of 38 passes for 284 yards and a pair of touchdowns in Ursinus College’s 27-19 win at Dickinson last Saturday. Dakota Wherrity (William Tennent) was 2-for-2 on field goals, making him 5-for-7 on the year. He also made all three of his extra points. Spingler had two interceptions in his final regular season appearance.
Shippensburg graduate running back Luke Durkin (Central Bucks West) was named to the All-PSAC East second team. Durkin finished the 
season ranked sixth in the PSAC in rushing yards (918) and rushing touchdowns (10) despite not having a carry in the first three weeks of the season. Durkin entered week four of the season with 13 career rushes and 23 career rushing yards. He totaled the most single season rushing yards by a Red Raider since 2014. Durkin ran for 100 or more yards in three games and had at least 72 rushing yards in all eight of his starts as the feature running back.
Durkin had 21 carries for 91 yards in Shippensburg’s 54-24 loss to No. 18 IUP last Saturday.
West Chester redshirt freshman linebacker Jackson Taylor (Abington) was named to the All-PSAC Eastern Division first team and senior Frank Tranzilli (North Penn) was named to the second team.
Jackson tied for the team lead in tackles with eight in West Chester’s 31-24 loss to Notre Dame College in the first round of the NCAA DII playoffs on Saturday. In No. 24 West Chester’s 20-19 win over California University of Pa., Taylor finished the game with 10 tackles.
Junior wide receiver Branden Mack (Cheltenham) had five receptions for 48 yards in Temple’s 29-21 win over Tulane last Saturday.
Chestnut Hill senior Michael Marino (Wissahickon) was named to the All-Collegiate Sprint Football League (CSFL) second team. He has received a postseason honor four times, twice earning honorable mention (2016 and 2018) and a second team selection in 2017. He was also recognized as a CSFL All-Academic honoree. The senior quarterback produced a league-leading 203.7 yards per game. The school’s all-time leader in a number of categories had career highs this season in passing yards (1,426), touchdowns (17) and completions (112).
Redshirt junior Nyfease West (North Penn) had a two-yard touchdown run in Bloomsburg’s 20-17 win over Edinboro in last Saturday’s season finale.
MEN’S SOCCER
Shippensburg University senior midfielder Colin Marks (Pennsbury) was named to the 2019 All-PSAC Eastern Division second team. Marks, who earned the first All-PSAC recognition of his career, started all 15 games and tied for the team lead in points (10) this season. He posted four goals and two assists. His four goals equal a single-season career high. He produced at least one point in five matches – including goals in three consecutive league matches from Oct. 19-26. His single-game best for points this season was three as he scored a goal and had an assist in the season finale at Lock Haven.
Senior Brett Miller (Council Rock North) recorded a goal and an assist in West Chester’s 2-0 win over East Stroudsburg in a PSAC quarterfinal game. Miller’s goal and assist matched his season statistics, giving him two goals and two assists.
Gwynedd Mercy junior Kevin Bowers (Council Rock South) was named to the 2019 All-Atlantic East Conference second team. This was his second straight season on the all-conference team. Bowers was limited to 13 games due to injury but still registered two goals and two assists.
WOMEN’S SOCCER
Allegheny junior Shannon McGuinn (William Tennent) earned All-North Coast Athletic Conference honorable mention recognition. McGuinn, the former NCAC Newcomer of the Year, tied her career-high with eight goals, also a team-high, and eclipsed her career mark with 18 points. She also led the team with four game-winning goals, one of which was a golden goal with 0.7 seconds remaining on the clock versus NCAC rival Ohio Wesleyan. It is the second time McGuinn has made the all-conference team as she was named to the first team after her freshman campaign.
University of Pennsylvania freshman Sizzy Lawton (Upper Dublin) earned All-Ivy honorable mention recognition. The UD freshman, an attack-
minded player, became stronger as the year went on and settled into her role as midfielder and winger during the Ivy campaign. She scored her first career goal in just her second appearance, a 2-0 win over Towson. She finished with three in total after finishing chances against Cornell and the game-winner against Dartmouth. Her goal and assist against Cornell propelled the Quakers to a 4-2 win. Two games later, she put away the match’s only goal against Dartmouth to earn Ivy League Rookie of the Week distinction.
Cabrini senior Marissa Portelli (Hatboro-Horsham) was named the Atlantic East Conference Defensive Player of the Year and also earned first team All-Conference honors. Portelli anchored a defense that limited opponents to an average of just .65 goals per game and had 12 shutouts. She also made her presence felt on the offensive side of the field after finishing her 2019 campaign with 12 points off of four goals and four assists. Portelli notched a pair of game-winning goals against Marywood University and Gwynedd Mercy University in back-to-back contests while her 1,549 minutes played also ranked tops among the Blue and White.
Cabrini senior Katelyn Gilinger (Springfield Township) was named to the 2019 Atlantic East All-Conference first team. The Springfield Township grad, a two-time All-Conference performer, paced the top scoring offense in the Atlantic East after finishing with a team best 22 points on seven goals and eight assists. The speedy forward tallied at least one point in 10 of 20 games played, including a pair of four-point games against Neumann University and Gwynedd Mercy University. Her efficiency is on display as she ranks inside the conference’s top five in goals (fifth), assists (second), and points (fourth) while sitting outside of the top 10 in shots.
Gwynedd Mercy sophomore Amanda Credidio (Bensalem) was named to the 2019 Atlantic East All-Conference second team. Credidio led the Griffins with 11 points on five goals and an assist. She was named the Atlantic East Player of the Week on Sept. 23 as she had back-to-back games with two goals, helping lead the Griffins to victories.
Kutztown senior Kristina Miller (North Penn) was named to the All-Atlantic Region second team. The all-region team is sponsored by the Division II Conference Commissioners Association (D2CCA) and voted on by the region’s sports information directors. It is the second All-Atlantic Region honor for Miller, who was also named to the All-PSAC first team. The North Penn grad was a four-year member of the Golden Bears and a two-year captain. She played in 80 games, tied for sixth most by a player in program history, and she has made 75 starts on defense, fifth most, during her time in Maroon and Gold. Miller has recorded eight goals and seven assists in her four years, including a career-high four this season. Last season Miller earned All-PSAC first team honors while being recognized as an All-Atlantic Region first teamer.
West Chester junior Hannah Zach (Central Bucks East) was named to the All-PSAC East first team. The East graduate had a team-leading 11 goals and 23 points this season. Zach, a forward, ranked sixth in the conference in goals scored.
West Chester junior Jesse Magee (Council Rock South) was named to the All-PSAC East second team. Magee was a key contributor on both offense and defense in 2019. She started all 18 West Chester games during the regular season and added one game-winning goal to her stat sheet.
Zach tallied two second-half goals and one assist to lift West Chester to a 4-2 win over host Slippery Rock in the second round of the NCAA Tournament on Saturday. Sophomore Jenna Peters (Pennsbury) headed in a goal on a corner kick from Zach to give West Chester a 1-0 lead. Sixth-seeded West Chester will face top-seeded Bloomsburg in the third round. In West Chester’s 2-1 double overtime victory over sixth-ranked Bloomsburg in the PSAC quarterfinals, Zach put the Golden Rams on top in the 27th minute when her shot from outside the area tucked inside the upper right-hand corner of the net over the outstretched arm of the keeper.
Kutztown University junior Savanna Harrison (Pennridge) was named to the 2019 All-PSAC second team. The Pennridge graduate had a breakout junior season in the midfield. She played and started in 17 of the 18 games this season as a center midfielder. Harrison has one goal in her career, tallied last season, and she has played in 53 career games, but her importance to head coach Erik Burstein and both the KU offense and defense could not be underestimated. She will be back next year as a senior to help solidify the midfield.
MEN’S SWIMMING & DIVING
Mark Preedy (William Tennent) was part of Arcadia’s third place 800 freestyle relay with a time of 7:21.03 at the three-day West Chester University Invitational on Saturday. On Friday at the West Chester Invitational, Preedy was part of the third place 200 freestyle relay team that posted a time of 1:28.99. In last Saturday’s 166-94 win over King’s, Preedy won the 50 freestyle with a time of 23.32.
Ryan Hartmann (North Penn) was the only IUP swimmer with multiple PSAC qualifying times at Cleveland State’s Mangus Cup on Saturday, posting a time of 51.82 in the 100 butterfly and a time of 1:00.67 in the 100 breaststroke.
Ridge Hagar (North Penn) was all over the leaderboard in Messiah’s 189-61 victory over Lycoming last Saturday, taking first place in the 100 breaststroke (1;05.08), 200 backstroke (2;01.32) and 200 IM (2:03.11) while also swimming in the 200 medley relay that took first place with a time of 1:48.40. In last Friday’s 134-52 loss to Gettysburg, Hagar placed second in the 100 fly (54.20) and third in the 100 back (55.16). He also was part of the winning 200 medley relay (1:37.66).
Shippensburg senior Jeff Beyer (Wissahickon) notched a PSAC qualifying time in the 100 freestyle with a time of 47.67 at the 2019 Patriot Invitational hosted by George Mason University. He also improved his PR in the 200 freestyle to 1:42.35, finishing in 19th place in the evening ‘C’ final to move up one spot to ninth all-time in the Raider record books for the event. He was part of the ninth place 200 freestyle relay that posted a time of 1:24.94. It is the fastest 200 free relay for Shippensburg in eight years.
Sam Henninger (Abington) swept the field in the 1-meter (303.08) and 3-meter (300.45) diving events in La Salle’s 183-116 win over NJIT. With his results, Henninger qualified for the NCAA Regional Diving Championships in the 1-meter dive. The rookie already qualified in the 3-meter earlier this season.
Mark Lukens (Plymouth Whitemarsh) was part of Widener’s 200 free relay that placed ninth with a time of 1:27.55 at the F&M Invitational on Friday.
West Chester freshman Tyler Hall (North Penn) took first place in the 50 free with a time of 21.19 at the Golden Rams Classic. The time is among the top five in the PSAC.
Freshman Luke Emig (Hatboro-Horsham) was part of the winning 200 medley relay that posted a time of 1:36.53 in Bloomsburg’s 132.5-71.5 win over Dickinson College on Saturday. Senior Corey Smith (North Penn) had three conference-qualifying swims.
WOMEN’S SWIMMING & DIVING
Arcadia senior Rachel Samson (Council Rock South) placed fifth in the 400 individual medley with a time of 4:51.89 at the West Chester Invitational on Saturday. On Friday night at the West Chester Invitational, Samson was part of the third place 200 freestyle relay that had a time of 1:41.41. Samson also placed sixth in the 200 individual medley with a time of 2:16.69. In last Saturday’s 144-118 win over King’s, Samson won three of the Knights’ eight overall event victories and was part of the winning 400 freestyle relay. Samson’s victories came in the 100 freestyle (57.10), 200 freestyle (2;04.68) and 200 individual medley (2:21.30). Her times in the 100 free and 200 IM marked season bests.
Shippensburg sophomore Natalie Wiley (Bensalem) entered the all-time top 10 rankings in the 200 breaststroke, finishing 20th with a time of 2:26.81 in the ‘C’ final at the 2019 Patriot Invitational hosted by George Mason University. The time is 10th in school history and is an improvement to her lifetime best of more than a full second. Wiley was part of the 400 medley relay that posted a time of 3:59.80. She also moved into 10th place all-time at Shippensburg in the 100 breaststroke with a lifetime best of 1:07.49. She qualified for the evening swim after a time of 1:07.69 in the prelims. It is an improvement of more than a full second from her pervious PR of 1:08.73 set at last year’s conference championships.
Phoebe Shaya (Council Rock South) won the 1-meter (252.68) and 3-meter diving events in La Salle’s 170-129 win over Stony Brook.
WOMEN’S TRACK & FIELD
Former Monmouth University track standout and eight-time MAAC track and field champion, Brianna Stratz (Central Bucks South) signed a professional contract with the Atlanta Track Club. Stratz holds five All-East honors and helped lead Monmouth to eight straight MAAC Track & Field Championship titles during her four years at the university. One of her greatest accomplishments was being part of growing the mid-distance program at MU to be nationally ranked.
WOMEN’S VOLLEYBALL
Cabrini junior Steph Judkins (Pennridge) received all-East Region honorable mention from the American Volleyball Coaches Association. This is the third AVCA all-region honor for Judkins in as many years. She also earned 2019 All-Atlantic East Conference first team honors for the third consecutive year after leading the Blue and White with 394 kills, second in the conference. The junior’s 36 service aces were good for second on the team while her 269 digs ranked third. Judkins also ranked 20th in Division III with 4.6 kills per set, 21st with 11.73 attacks per set and 23rd with 4.07 kills per set.
Holly Owen (Hatboro-Horsham) had a match-high 12 kills and 12 digs in Kutztown’s 3-0 sweep of Lock Haven last Saturday. She ended the year just three shy of 1,000 for her career. She has a career-high 442 kills this season which ranks fifth best in program history for kills in a season. Owen will enter her senior year ninth all-time in career kills. In KU’s 3-1 loss at Bloomsburg, Owen had a match-high 21 kills. She ranks second in the PSAC with 430 kills on the year. In KU’s 3-2 loss to East Stroudsburg, Owen recorded a match-high 24 kills and added 14 digs.
Freshman Lilly Acquaviva (Plymouth Whitemarsh) and sophomore Julia Vreeswyk (Pennsbury) tied for the team lead with 15 kills each in West Chester’s 3-2 loss to Shepherd. Sophomore Maddy Moore (Council Rock North) led the defense with a season-high 20 digs. In West Chester’s 3-0 loss to Millersville, Vreeswyk had a team-high seven kills to give her a team-high 295 kills this season.
Sophomore Sydney Buell (Pennsbury) had a team-high 11 assists and narrowly missed a double-double as she finished with nine digs in Bloomsburg’s 3-0 loss to East Stroudsburg. Sophomore Bryn Stek (Upper Dublin) added seven assists. In Bloomsburg’s 3-1 win over Kutztown, Buell stuffed the box score with 13 kills and 23 assists while adding four service aces, five digs and two assisted blocks. Stek had three kills in four attempts from the setter position while also registering 22 assists. In the Huskies’ 3-0 sweep of Lock Haven, Buell had seven kills, seven assists and posted five of the team’s 13 service aces. Stek handed out a team-best 16 assists.
WRESTLING
Ray Calderaio (Central Bucks South) edged Ryan Bauer by a 7-5 count with an overtime takedown at 133 in Ursinus College’s 42-10 victory over Penn College last Saturday.
