CENTRAL BUCKS WEST 11, WILLIAM TENNENT 3

HATFIELD -- Thursday night's Suburban High School Hockey League game between William Tennent and Central Bucks West appeared, on paper, to be one of those contests where the last team to score a goal would win.
Both teams had scored a lot of goals in the early weeks of the season. The Panthers had scored 31 goals in four games, an average of 7.75 goals per game, while the Bucks had tallied 48 goals in five games, good for an average of 9.6 goals per game.
Well, it held true for one of the two teams. West scored 11 times and held Tennent to only three goals to pick up the win.
Where did the Bucks get all this firepower?
"We knew that we had that first line with goal-scorers on there with Chris Trefz and Jake Lang and Keith Orlando," said West coach Dave Baun. "Our second line is doing a good job moving the puck. They go to the net and when you go to the net, you score a lot of goals."
That might be an understatement.
After a well-played first period that saw the two teams battle to a 2-2 tie, West exploded for six goals in the second to quickly put the game out of reach.
Trefz, who scored a pair of goals and added two assists, gives a lot of the credit for the increase in goals to the newer players.
"We've had big changes all up and down the lineup," he said. "I think it comes down to - our new kids are starting to buy into the system.
"If you look at the scoring, in the beginning of the year, it was all the top line. Now it's starting to even out a little bit."
Trefz also likes the way the Bucks have handled adversity this season.
"We've been struggling with our starts a little bit," he said. "In past games, we've gone down a couple times.
"We've always bounced back. I think we're just a persistent team."
Persistence definitely paid off against Tennent. The first period was a back-and-forth affair.
West scored the first goal of the game only 3:20 into the period as Trefz took a pass from Lang and beat Panther goalie Thomas Lomas. But Tennent came right back at the 10:22 mark to tie it on Mason McKeever's goal.
The Bucks went back into the lead less than two minutes later, at 12:10, on Trefz's second score. Once again, the Panthers came back to tie the game, this time on a goal by Zach Devor.
But that was it for Tennent until late in the third period when the game was already decided. Meanwhile, the Bucks went wild.
Daniel Poliak opened the second period with a goal only 34 seconds gone into the period. He followed that up with another at 5:06.
Sammy Poliak netted his first goal of the game seven minutes later. That was followed by tallies from Evan Hee, Lang and Sammy Poliak (again).
In the third, Billy Loughnane and Orlando scored to up the Bucks’ advantage to 10-2. Tennent's Justin Carrelli broke the Bucks’ run with a goal, and Daniel Poliak's third marker completed his hat trick for West.
Despite Thursday’s offensive explosion, Baun said that his team’s 9.6 goals per game average can be a little deceiving.
"We're looking at the process,” the Bucks’ coach said. "I think that if we play well, it will help us at the end of the season. We're looking at the process of how we play, and we figure if we play well, results will come.
"We're not really concentrating on the results right now. We're trying to play well. The results tend to come."
Oh, they really do.

NORTH PENN 8, PENNSBURY 3
Tyler Greenstein (one goal, three assists), Joshua Kaufhold (two goals, two assists), Luke Van Why (one goal, three assists) and Tony Tuozzo (three goals, one assist) each had four-point games to lead the Knights to the big win.
The Knights took a 2-0 lead after back-to-back goals by Tuozzo within a span of 1:37 – the first with assists from Van Why and Greenstein and the second assisted by Kaufhold and Thomas Boyle. A shorthanded goal by Jake Machlovitz cut that lead in half.
When Brendan Macainsh scored with an assist from Erik Eisler early in the second period, the two teams were deadlocked 2-2, but not for long. Eighteen seconds later Van Why found the net with a Quinn Holt assist. Kaufhold scored on a power play goal with a Ryan Cunningham assist to send the Knights into the final period with a 4-2 advantage.
Greenstein’s shorthanded goal with assists from Kaufhold and Van Why put the Knights on top 5-2, but Erik Eisler (Brendan Macainsh assist) made it a two-goal game when he scored four minutes into the period. The Knights closed out the game with a 3-0 tear that included a power play goal by Zachery Cline (Van Why/Jeromy Porubski assists) as well as single goals by Tuozzo (Greenstein assist) to complete his hat trick and Kaufhold (Greenstein/Tuozzo assists).
The Knights held a 48-33 advantage in shots. Nick Ebbinghaus recorded 30 saves in a winning effort in goal.

UPPER MORELAND-MORELAND NEW HOPE 9, QUAKERTOWN 2
Twelve different players contributed to the scoring for Upper Moreland-Moreland New Hope in a performance that was the definition of a team effort.
UM-MNH opened up a 5-0 lead four minutes into the second period and never looked back.
In the opening period, Michael Janora (Charles Jones) and Kel MacDowell (Noah Goodson/PJ Marsteller) each scored a goal to give UM-MNH a 2-0 lead after one period. Back-to-back-to-back goals by Matt Hartley (PJ Marsteller assist), Matt Hartley (Leo Fowler assist) and Goodson (Ben Helsinger assist) made it a 5-0 game.
Quakertown got on the scoreboard with a power play goal by Anthony Pagliei nine minutes into the second period, and another power play goal – this one by Glenn Ford with assists from Pagliei and Wesley Shaw – made it a 5-2 game, but Garrett Hoffman’s goal with assists from Chris Allen and MacDowell) gave UM-MNJ a 6-2 advantage after two periods.
UM-MNH closed it out with three unanswered goals in the final period. Aidan Croce, Rex Fowler and Leo Fowler each had a goal in the period.
UM-MNH held a 48-18 advantage in shots. Michael Denardo turned away 16 of 18 shots to earn the win in goal.

The Redskins remained perfect on the young season with an impressive win over the Patriots at Grundy Ice on Wednesday. Robert Seewagen led the attack with two goals and an assist.
Nolan Geria’s shorthanded goal with a Trevor Kuhn assist late in the first period gave the Redskins a 1-0 lead heading into the second period when they seized control of the game.
Goals by Matthew Duke (Seewagen assist) Nolan Geria and Seewagen (shorthanded) put the Redskins on top 4-0 before Sean Gorman found the net on a power play goal with a Jasen Cluckey assist 12 minutes into the period to make it a 4-1 game. Jacob Helms (Zach McNamee/Michael Knipple assists) took a 5-1 lead into the final period. Seewagen’s unassisted goal was the only score of the period.
Neshaminy goalie Brian Nelson recorded 16 saves in the win.

The Panthers found themselves on the short end of a 3-1 score heading into the final period when they erupted for three unanswered goals to earn the dramatic come-from-behind win. Thomas Hartenstein scored the game-winner with 52 seconds remaining in the final period, using a Matthew Castan assist.
Earlier, the two teams exchanged goals in the first period. Wyatt Pasch (Noah Epstein/Jude Hollister assists) scored first for North, and Anthony Cattalo (Hartenstein assist) knotted the score with a goal in the final minute of the period.
The Indians added a pair of power play goals in the second period. Colin Kiefer scored with assists from Vlad Litvinov and Antonio DiLossi, and Litvinov (Wilton Pasch assist) also scored.
The final period belonged to the Panthers, who held a 20-5 advantage in shots over the Indians. Castan (Johnathan Kreider assist) scored six minutes into the period, and Hartenstein knotted the score 11:49 into the period with an assist from Zach Devor, setting the stage for Hartenstein’s game-winner.
Trey Smith recorded 22 saves in a winning effort in goal for the Panthers. Rex Goldberg’s 41-save effort kept the Indians in it.

The Titans controlled play from start to finish in Wednesday’s contest that came to an early end because of the mercy rule.
Four different players scored goals in the first period. David Kvecher (Colin Abbonizio assist), Connor Gaffney (Harry McLaughlin assist), Matt Milanesi (Dominic Patrone assist) and Kvecher each scored for the Titans.
It was more of the same in the second period. Aydin Theirolf (Patrone assist), McLaughlin (Connor Gaffney/Aidan Gaffney assists), Max Levitz (Nick Klein assist) and Stephen McMillan (Abbonizio/Ryan Gingras assists) each scored a single goal while Patrone had a pair of goals – the first with a Gingras assist and the second with assists from Owen Mendham and Gingras.
Mason Moyer was forced to make just three saves in the shutout.

The Rams – who were led by hat tricks from Jack Lowery and Andrew David – erupted for six second-period goals, turning a 1-1 tie into an 8-2 advantage. The Cardinals never threatened.
Oren Serafin’s shorthanded goal spotted the Cardinals a 1-0 lead 7:37 into the opening period. David (Conrad Frisch assist) evened the score late in the period. Lowery turned a pass from Ryan Schuler into a goal in the opening minute of the period, and Aeryk Lehrhaupt (Lowery assist) scored to make it a 3-1 game. Zachary Keenan scored UD’s second shorthanded goal of the game, this one with a Jack Bocul assist to make it a 3-2 game.
The Rams closed out the period with four unanswered goals and added a pair in the final period. David had a pair of goals in that late-game tear – the first with a Cooper White assist. Lowery also had two goals in that span – the first a shorthanded goal with assists from White and Jacob Lizak and the second with a Lehrhaupt assist. Richie Shanks (White/David assists) and Ryan Schuler both added single goals.
Ryan Pico recorded 18 saves in a winning effort in goal for the Rams.
