Quakertown Impressive At MyHouse X-Calibur

MyHouse was the sponsor, and Wilkes University the host of the X-Calibur tourney where the Quakertown Panthers excelled, placing second overall in the team standings.  Only nationally ranked Wyoming Seminary was better.  Seminary put up an incredible score of 390.5 points to Quakertown’s 200.5 points in the team standings.  That put the Panthers well ahead of third place finisher West Morris Central (NJ) with 139 points.

Quakertown did it in the wrestle-backs, placing six wrestlers in the consolation finals.  Despite no champs, the Panthers captured two bronze medals as Zack Lewis downed North Penn’s Eddie Galang 5-2 at 132-pounds and Dom DeFalco major decisioned Mark Venson (Bound Brook, NJ) 13-3 at 138-pounds.  Zach Borzio (106), Todd McGann (113), Vinny DeSpirito (126) and Ralph Martin (220) all finished in fourth place for the Panthers.

The Panthers were even more impressive in the consolation fifth place bouts as they scored bonus points and team points capturing four 5th place medals.  Kyle Miller (120), Kyle Goodwin (160), Freddie Retter (195) and Jeremy McGuigan (285) were the victors.  Dusten Pompei tallied the final points for Quakertown earning the 7th place medal at 170-pounds with a 14-3 major decision over teammate Kaden Roesener.

This year, by rule, with approval from tournament directors, teams may enter multiple wrestlers in individual tournaments at the same weight class.  Twenty-one teams competed in this event from Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Virginia.  North Penn finished just out of the top ten in the team standings in 11th place with 68 points.  William Morrow placed third at 145-pounds, downing Bound Brook’s (NJ) Maximus Parra 7-3.  Jarret Niedosik finished in fourth at 170-pounds along with the Knight’s Galang at 132.

Pennridge’s Logan Green was the only SOL wrestler to capture a title, winning by fall in the finals over Deren Cercioglu (Paramus Catholic, NJ) in 3:04.

Abington Falls To Father Judge

The Abington Ghosts are challenging themselves this season, and it is evident, as this young team has gotten out of their comfort zone.  Abington crossed the city limits on Friday to take on the traditional power of the Philadelphia Catholic League Father Judge.  The match was top notch, and highly contested.  Judge edged the Ghosts 40-36.

The teams split the 14-matches, each winning seven bouts.  However, bonus points were the difference as Judge posted six falls and a major decision to thwart a mighty effort by the Ghosts.
