SOL Girls' Basketball Wrap (1-15-20)

SPRINGFIELD TOWNSHIP 63, PHIL-MONT CHRISTIAN 12

Rileigh Serroni scored 22 points – all in the first half – to lead the Spartans to their first win of the season, this one a no-doubt-about-it rout.

“Our girls have not given up on what we’re trying to do as a team even though we’ve had some rough patches with the first 12 games,” coach Dave Giordano said. “They have been sticking with it, staying positive and working as a team.

“Finally, we had everything line up, and I couldn’t be happier for them. They have been positive and know that it’s just a matter of time before things would finally click.”

The Spartans, who led 21-2 at the end of one quarter, took a 40-6 lead into halftime.

In addition to Serroni, Annie Coll had eight points, Raya Davis and Maddie Yoder both added seven while Emily Smith and Falon George both had six.

“It was a complete team effort,” Giordano said. “They played relaxed, they executed the offense, they played really good defense, and they earned it.”

Springfield Township (1-10, 0-7 SOL) will travel to Abington on Friday.
