HATBORO-HORSHAM COMES BACK TO WIN SENIOR NIGHT OVER UPPER DUBLIN

Horsham, PA-The Hatboro-Horsham Wrestling Warriors survived a scare from a young, upstart Upper Dublin Flying Cardinal team Wednesday night in Suburban One League American Conference action. H-H’s seniors that took the mat were perfect on their night, enabling them to thwart a potential upset from UD. H-H senior A.J. Tamburrino put the Hatters back on top 38-33 at 160-pounds with a surgical pin of Max Zelkind (UD) after H-H trailed UD most of the night. Jake Wood followed with a fall to close out the match with his decking of Dan Nardo at 170lbs, in the second-period, to complete the comeback.
H-H started off the match with a monster fall by Hunter Long at 182lbs. Senior Patrick Chapman posted a major decision 11-1 at 195lbs to put the Hatters up early 10-0 in the dual with the Cardinals (the match began at 182-pounds). Logan Flynn, the third of three seniors wrestling on Senior Night for H-H, won by fall at 220 to push the Hatters lead to a comfortable 14-0 after three straight wins to open the match.
But it would be a while before any H-H wrestlers would win again against Cardinals. UD posted a pin at 285 with Connor Devitt’s :19-second fall over James Fuller (H-H) to begin a run of six straight victories for UD. UD’s Dan Gorman received a forfeit at 106, and Tommy Clayton decisioned Orion Newell 7-5 at 113, after Newell had a stellar third period to make the match interesting. Clayton’s win put the Flying Cardinals up by one. Colin Higgins (120), Griffin Johnson (126) and freshman Austin Pendleton (132) rattled off back-to-back-to-back pin falls for UD to pull ahead by a sizeable margin ant 33-14.
H-H appeared to be in trouble with the outcome of the dual getting away from them, but Sammy Smith stopped the charge of the Cardinals at 138-pounds with a first period fall to mount the comeback. H-H ran off five straight wins of their own, all by fall (with one forfeit) as Nathan Cotter followed with a pin at 145 and Daviat Asrorav picked up a forfeit at 152, making the team score 33-32 in favor of UD. Trailing by just a point, the H-H middle weights set up Tamburrino and Wood for the heroics and the 44-33 victory.
