QUAKERTOWN DEPARTS EARLY FROM HERSHEY

Hershey, PA-The Quakertown wrestling team’s trip to Hershey was cut short at the hands of local Central Dauphin (CD) in the wrestle-backs. CD also eliminated another SOL team in Council Rock South earlier in the week from the 2020 PIAA AAA Team Championships. The Rams from central PA won eight of the 14 bouts, picking up bonus points in six of them, and that was the difference in the 36-22 victory.
Unable to ride early momentum grabbed by Patrick McCoy’s first bout victory at 145-pounds over Ram Wayde McClune, the Panthers dropped two in a row at 152 and 160. Dustin Pompei notched another win at 170 for Quakertown with a decision, but a team point was deducted that put the team down 7-5 on the scoreboard. CD ran off three straight before Q-town big man Jeremy McGuigan kept his stellar season going with another win over CD stud Nathanial Mosey, 9-2, to give the Panthers a chance to come back as the match was put in the hands of the lightweights.
The Panthers managed to split the final six matches, but it wasn’t nearly enough. Todd McGann (113) and Kyle Miller (120) gave life to the Panthers with back-to-back tech falls, making the team score 29-18. Josh Miller (CD) closed the door on the Panthers with his 10-0 major decision over Vinny DeSpirito. Panther Zack Lewis put a 10-2 major decision on CD’s Tyler Faust for the last of Q-town’s points.
Quakertown has plenty of business left as we head to the individual postseason in two weeks. Look for several Panther grapplers to advance to the big stage again at the Giant Center in early March 2020.
