Christian Rivera – Cairn University (Basketball)
Major: Business (5-year MBA program) with Pre-Law minor
Final list of colleges: Cairn, Messiah, West Point, Liberty, Temple
Reasons for choosing Cairn: “I chose Cairn because I was talking to the basketball coach, and he told me that he wanted me to play there. Also, I just loved the campus – I’m a Christian and the whole culture and how I can continue my faith there is important to me.”
What was the progression that led you to competing in basketball at the collegiate level? “Ever since I was little, I loved basketball, and I knew I wanted to play. I also knew I didn’t have the natural talent – I’m short and not necessarily too athletic, so I just had to work hard. My older brother Jesse is playing basketball currently at Cairn. After seeing that he could do it, it pushed me to work even harder. The Cairn coach heard about me through Jesse and came to my games.”
Coach Erik Henrysen says: “I’m proud of Christian. He has come so far by outworking everyone. Christian was a leader by example and his impact on our program will definitely have a lasting impression. Christian had a great year for us providing depth at the point guard position. He is tough as nails and plays the point like a traditional floor general. Christian will join his brother Jesse at Cairn. Cairn had such a good year making it to the D-III National Tournament. I’m excited for him and the entire Rivera family to be able to now have two boys playing at Cairn.”
