Cheltenham's Jaelen McGlone Earns All-State Recognition

Cheltenham senior Jaelen McGlone earned Pennsylvania Sportswriters Class 6A All-State third team honors.

Cheltenham senior Jaelen McGlone was the lone SOL player named to the Pennsylvania Sportswriters Class 6A All-State Team, earning third team recognition. The 6-4 senior guard was a first team All-SOL American Conference selection. He scored 480 points as a senior, averaging 16.5 points, 7.6 rebounds, 3.8 assists, 2.3 steals and 1.1 block for a Panther squad that captured the American Conference title with a perfect 14-0 record. McGlone started all 29 games for a District One 6A runner-up Panther squad that was 25-4 and still alive in the PIAA 6A playoffs when the season was halted. McGlone, who will continue his career at Rider University, joins Zahree Harrison (Saint Francis), who was sidelined all season with an injury, as the first seniors in program history to earn full basketball scholarships.

Cheltenham coach Patrick Fleury said:  “Jaelen is a two-way player, he’s a Division I player. He was a tone setter on both ends. As a guard, he was a very good rebounder for us. Obviously, he could shoot the ball well. He’s very athletic and can pass the ball and dribble. We used him in a lot of spots – one through five in most games. Offensively, he was on the perimeter, but defensively, he moved around a lot.

“Jaelen and Justin Moore were just very good. They won 25 games together. Our schedule, especially out-of-league, was made to show what we intended to come into the season with Zahree Harrison, but 25-4 wasn’t bad for us. Jaelen and Justin Moore as the lead guards along with Saleem Payne just helped us a lot in terms of being able to change paces and play to their strengths more than we originally intended, so it was amazing to see Jaelen and the rest of the guys take on different roles throughout the course of the season. Jaelen earning third team with the success and the course of his season – obviously, he went into it with a classmate that was our most seasoned player and our catalyst, and without him and two sophomores at point guard along with our other guys, Brandon Scott, Dave Pope, Sean Emfinger and our senior crew, it was just an amazing journey. When it came to the games, Jaelen gave us a lot offensively and defensively without question.”
