Gabrielle Liott – Ursinus College (Lacrosse)

Major:  Biology

Final list of colleges:  Ursinus, Kutztown, La Salle, Rowan University

Reasons for choosing Ursinus:  “I chose Ursinus because it’s a great academic school, and the campus feels like home. The team felt like family, and the coaches were very passionate and so nice.”

What was the progression that led you to competing in lacrosse at the collegiate level:  “I first started thinking about playing in college when I was in middle school and played for LaxEDGE. When I joined Philly Blast, my interest in playing in college only went up. Playing for the Blast really made me want to continue playing the sport I love. The recruiting process started to pick up when I was a sophomore in high school. I had to practice really hard and make every game count. College coaches started contacting me my junior year, and the hard part was narrowing down the colleges. It took me until November to make my final decision. I am so happy with my decision to play at Ursinus.”

Lacrosse coach Marie Schmucker says:  “I taught her in sixth grade, and I used to say, ‘I can’t wait to coach you.’ She’s just such a natural athlete and such a hard worker. She’s very dedicated and self motivated. She’s a great student-athlete both on and off the field. She’s a great leader. Anything you ask her to do – she goes above and beyond. She made other players better, and she was able to communicate with her teammates. She was a force to be reckoned with on the field. She played midfield, but she had the most draws, contributed goals and assists. She was an integral part of our team.

“We waited four years as a coaching staff with the seniors we had and couldn’t wait for this season. We thought it was going to be a very, very successful season, and then this happened. These poor kids – my heart aches for them. Gabby and Cam (Ryan) will play in college, but it’s a different animal. You want to go out with a bang. They did in soccer, and I really foreseen that happening in lacrosse because these kids have played together since seventh grade. Gabby was a pleasure to coach. She was just so tenacious. She’s just an all around outstanding student-athlete. She made me even better as a coach.”

Soccer coach Kelsey Daley says:  “Gabby Liott is a player who demonstrates the most leadership, sportsmanship, team spirit and skill in a player. She is always eager to learn and do better every day. I couldn’t have asked for more from a player, and I am so grateful that I was able to coach her and get to know her at Hatboro-Horsham in her final two years of high school. Gabby was a part of the girls’ soccer team that won the 2019 Suburban One American Conference championship. Gabby, best of luck, and I know you will excel at everything you do in the future. I can’t wait to see what you can accomplish in the years to come.”

Swimming coach Kip Emig says:  “My favorite thing about Gabby was her competitiveness. She just loved to compete. She’s that kid that wants to do better all the time. She’s a really good leader, and she was just a pleasure to have around. As a swim coach, I wish she would have swam more with me, but being a three-sport athlete, she was doing her thing. She’s going to Ursinus for lacrosse, and she’s going to be successful, so I’m happy for her.”
