Gianna Iadonisi – Kutztown University (Softball)
Major: Criminal Justice
Final list of colleges: Kutztown, East Stroudsburg
Reasons for choosing Kutztown: “I just loved the campus. I tore my ACL in the fall, and the coach saw me before I tore my ACL, so I had a better connection with the coach.”
What was the progression that led you to competing in softball at the collegiate level? “Playing college softball has always been a goal because I love the game, and I’ve been playing for most of my life. It’s a higher level, and it’s an accomplishment to play in college.
“I thought I couldn’t play after I tore my ACL. I was worried and scared because it was a huge setback and horrible timing, but since the whole COVID-19, the season was cancelled.”
Coach Wendy Iadonisi says: “I have coached Gianna since she was five, and last season, she just had a really strong year, so we were looking forward to what she would have done this year. She had the second highest batting average on our team last year, and she’s very strong defensively also. Her mobility was always one of her strong suits, she knows the game and was aggressive on the bases, but she tore her ACL in October and was probably going to miss this whole season anyway, which is a shame. It would have been hard for her to sit there and watch, but I know she would have supported her team. Up until her injury, we really had high hopes for her on the field.”
