Abington Field Hockey Preview

ABINGTON FIELD HOCKEY PREVIEW

Coach:  Katie Small 4 yrs (11 yrs total), Jamie Fiztzgerald-Westphal 1 yr (asst prior 7 yrs)

Assistant coach: Beth Montagano, Janine Larr

Last year’s record:  Overall 8-9-1 finished 24th in the district.  First round loss to Conestoga.

Notable losses:  Paige Doyle (LaSalle U.), Jasmine Cubbage (Arcadia), Grace Kirwin (Washington and Jefferson), Mikayla Kizel

Key returners:  Camryn Stewart – 10th/Midfield, Aly Campbell – 12th/Back, Devan DiMaria 11th/Midfield

Others to watch: Marilynn Capps – 11th/Goalie, Ysabel Lowery 12th/Midfield

Strengths/Question Marks:  With the loss of Abington’s most decorated player, Paige Doyle, Abington looks to fill a void in the middle of the field.  Sophomore Camryn Stewart, Captains Aly Campbell and Ysabel Lowery will be called upon to fill that role.

Outlook:  “Coming into camp, the girls were excited to get back on the field.  Although practices don’t have the same feel as years past, the team came into camp in shape, excited and ready to start training to feel a sense of normalcy.  With the graduation of Doyle (LaSalle), Abington will be looking to fill a hole left in the middle of the field.  Captains Campbell, Lowery and Zoe Freedman are leading the charge and making sure the team is ready to play.  Abington is looking forward to some strong competition this year in the new American Conference.”
