National Conference
Council Rock South 3, William Tennent 0
Katie Rodman and Edan Kauer each notched 17 digs (Kauer added 7 kills) to pace Council Rock South in its 3-0 win over William Tennent in Friday’s National Conference game.
Alissa Helverson (10 digs, 2 blocks, 7 kills) and Ava Paulson (10 digs, 5 kills) each added double-digit digs for the Golden Hawks.
Claire Goetz picked up 5 digs, while Avery Vaughan (5 blocks, 5 kills) and Emma Helverson (5 blocks, 3 kills) also put up strong numbers in the victory.
South improves to 4-0 in league play (5-1 overall), and will host archrival Council Rock North at 3:30 pm Monday. Tennent drops to 2-3 in league play (2-4 overall) and will visit Bensalem for a 7 pm Monday showdown.
Pennsbury 3, Neshaminy 0
Izzy Marinelli did it all for Pennsbury en route to a straight set win (25-17, 27-25, 25-17) over Neshaminy in Friday’s National Conference action. Marinelli delivered 20 kills for the Falcons and added 13 digs and 5 blocks.
Setter Carrissa VanVeet handed out 25 assists and added 2 kills, 3 aces, and 6 digs. Grace Sobey added 13 digs and a pair of aces, while Taylor Pettruccio added 3 kills and 2 aces.
Pennsbury improves to 3-2 overall and in league play, and will host Bensalem at 3:30 Tuesday. Neshaminy moves to 0-4 overall and in league play and will host Council Rock North at 4 pm Wednesday.
Continental Conference
Central Bucks South 3, Souderton 1
Central Bucks South celebrated its senior class, then the Titans won three straight sets to overcome a first-set loss (9-25, 25-15, 25-9, 25-23) and power to a 3-1 win over Souderton in Friday’s Continental Conference matchup.
“We started the night by celebrating the CB South seniors,” said South coach Kurt Godfrey. “They all got an opportunity to play and start tonight for us. These girls are truly incredible. They’ve taken the 2020 COVID season and made the absolute best of it. Courtney Pohl has been a starter for us, Dana Durkin and Olivia Justus have stepped into starting roles this season, and Shayne Prudish and Jillian Cardinal have come into matches at key times to make some significant contributions. The colleges these girls attend next fall will be lucky to have them. I want each one of them to know that myself and the program will miss each of them next season. I hope they come back to visit us as often as possible.”
Alyssa Reiner recorded 9 kills, 9 digs, and an ace for Souderton. Gwen Anderson posted 12 assists, McKenna Murawski had 7 kills and 6 digs, and Nikki Hamilton had 5 assists and a pair of aces.
“We played another very exciting match against CB South,” said Souderton coach Cori Watson. “We're making steady improvements as the season progresses. We will continue to battle, work hard, and improve.”
South moves to 5-2 in league play (6-2 overall) Souderton. The Titans will host Central Bucks West ay 6:30 pm Monday. Souderton falls to 1-5 overall and in league play, and will host Quakertown at 4:30 pm Monday.
Pennridge 3, Central Bucks West 1
Continental Conference frontrunner Pennridge visited Central Bucks West for a tightly contested match on Friday night, and the Rams were able to battle their way to a 3-1 victory against a determined West squad.
Senior middle blocker Julia Post played a pivotal role in the victory, turning the tides with critical kills throughout the match. Junior setter Allison Saalfrank contributed heavily in the win as well, with timely defensive plays to keep the Rams alive. Pennridge also received support from the service line in the form of Isabella Cooper, whose play was critical in the come-from-behind set victories.
Maggie McCusker led West with 23 assists, 5 kills, 3 aces, and 11 digs.
The Rams improve to 4-0 in conference play (5-0 overall), and will host Souderton at 6:30 pm Wednesday. West stands at 2-4 overall and in league play. The Bucks visit Central Bucks South for a 6:30 Monday matchup.
HATBORO-HORSHAM 3, UPPER DUBLIN 0 (25-14, 25-18, 25-21)
Hatboro-Horsham finished off a tough week, extending their record to 6-0 sweeping three solid opponents in New Hope-Solebury, Plymouth Whitemarsh and Upper Dublin on Friday night.
The Hatters' defense was lead by senior Jess Howard with 10 digs and two aces whereas the offense was run by a combination of senior setter Maddy Murphy and junior setter Grace Howard with 10 and 16 sets respectively. Nastya Tsetsko in another impressive night at the net finished with 11 kills on 21 attacks, supported by sophomore middle hitter Jade Lauzier adding seven kills on 17 attacks. Kayla Jones, Izzy Bombas and Ava Santo all added three kills to the mix. Seniors Jenna Robinson and Angie Ravi both had three aces apiece from the line.
Nonleague
Council Rock North 3, Abington 0
Junior setter Kate Logan dished out 31 assists and fellow junior outside hitter Ashleigh Adams posted 16 kills, 17 digs, 1 assist, and 1 block as North remained undefeated with a straight-set victory (25-13, 25-17, 26-24) over Abington on Friday.
In addition to her setup total, Logan also notched 2 kills, 5 digs, 1 ace, and 1 block. Senior outside hitter Mary Baniewicz posted 12 kills, 6 digs, and 3 aces, while senior middle hitter Julia Walton (4 kills, 4 aces, 3 blocks, 2 digs), senior libero Mikayla Adams (20 digs, 1 assist, 2 aces, 1 kill), senior opposite hitter Cora Lake (3 kills, 6 digs, 1 block), and senior middle hitter Sabrina Pasemann (4 kills, 4 digs, 1 block) also contributed with solid efforts.
North improves to 5-0 overall (4-0 National Conference). Next up is a home showdown against archrival and second-place Council Rock South at 3:30 pm Monday. Abington drops to 3-3 overall (3-2 American Conference). The Galloping Ghosts will be on the road at Upper Dublin for a 3:45 pm game Monday.
