SOL National
COUNCIL ROCK NORTH 3, COUNCIL ROCK SOUTH 0 (25-14, 25-21, 25-15)
In a battle of conference unbeaten squads, it was the Indians keeping their perfect record intact with a sweep of the visiting Golden Hawks. Rock North is 6-0 overall.
Leading the Indians was junior outside hitter Ashleigh Adams with 21 kills, 12 digs, four aces, two assists and one block. Senior outside hitter Mary Baniewicz added seven kills, eight digs, seven aces and two blocks while senior middle hitter Julia Walton had three kills, one ace, one block and two digs.
Junior setter Kate Logan had 27 assists for the Indians to go along with two kills, seven digs and one ace. Senior libero Mikayla Adams contributed 11 digs, four assists and one ace. Senior opposite hitter Cora Lake had two kills, nine digs, one ace and two blocks, and senior middle hitter Sabrina Pasemann added four kills, three blocks and two digs.
Council Rock South falls to 4-1 in conference play (5-2 overall).
WILLIAM TENNENT 3, BENSALEM 0 (25-14, 25-18, 25-13)
The Panthers earned a sweep of the Owls to even their conference record at 3-3.
"It is really nice to see how all 14 girls on varsity have come together," Tennent coach Brian Bassler said. "They played with a positive energy last night, and we got contributions from everyone. I'm very proud of the girls and their effort."
Leading a balanced Tennent attack were Mayley Morena (three aces, five kills), Mackenzie Clee (three aces, four kills) and Charlotte Reeves (two aces, one kill, one block).
SOL Continental
CENTRAL BUCKS SOUTH 3, CENTRAL BUCKS WEST 1 (21-25, 25-22, 25-22, 25-23)
Senior outside hitter Courtney Pohl and junior outside hitter Millie Grove proved to be double trouble for the Bucks as the duo combined for 40 kills to lead the Titans to the win in the tightly contested match.
Pohl finished with 21 kills and 15 digs while Grove added 19, kills, 10 digs and one ace.
Junior setter Shannon Rector handed out 42 assists to go along with 10 digs, five aces and one kill. Junior defensive specialist/libero Rian Grant led the defense with 24 kills to go along with four aces. Sophomore middle blocker Katie Canzanese added two aces, two kills, three blocks and five digs, and senior opposite Olivia Justus contributed five aces, two kills and six digs.
“Tonight was a real team effort,” South coach Kurt Godfrey said. “Everyone chipped in at some point on offense and defense.
“CB West is a tough team, and they fight for every point. All the girls know each other extremely well, and these two teams match up really well against each other. I am so proud of all the girls for digging deep in that last set, calmly working back into the last set, and taking a big match for us.”
For the Bucks, Alexis Barklage (15 kills, two blocks) and Jada Reichwein (10 kills, one ace, 13 digs, one block) led the way at the net. Setter Maggie McCusker had 30 assists, five kills, two aces, one block and 14 digs. Jordyn Klementovich led the Bucks defensively with 20 digs to go along with two aces and five assists. Kaitlyn Paley finished with six kills, two aces and six digs, and Brie Lievezey added two kills, one ace and two blocks.
The Titans upped their record to 6-2 in conference play (7-2 overall).
SOUDERTON 3, QUAKERTOWN 0
The Indians earned a sweep of the visiting Panthers to earn their second conference win.
“We are happy to see our hard work continuing to pay off on the court,” coach Cori Watson said. “The nerves of having spectators in the stands for the first time left us inconsistent in the first set, but we recovered well in the second and third sets. We are back to work tomorrow in preparation for our match against Pennridge on Wednesday.”
The Indians were led at the net by Alyssa Reiner (eight kills, five aces), McKenna Murawski (seven kills, three aces) and Amanda Swan Geiger (seven kills). Nikki Hamilton (15 assists, three aces) and Gwen Anderson (11 assists) shared setting duties.
SOL American
ABINGTON 3, UPPER DUBLIN 2 (20-25, 25-18, 25-19, 18-25, 15-12)
The Ghosts won a grueling five-set match over the Ghosts.
“It was another classic battle,” Abington coach Dan Marsh said. “Both teams played their butts off. Matches like these are why I’m bald and why I love coaching.”
Kenya Lucas had a huge day at the net, leading the Ghost attack with 24 kills. Lila Stonehouse added 12 kills. Setter Izzy Reilly dished out 38 assists, and Sophia Ermigiotti led the defense with 12 digs and two aces.
For the Flying Cardinals, Emily Senior came up big at the net, contributing 20 kills to go along with one block and eight digs. Anna Faust led the Cardinals defensively with 30 digs and also had a monster game at the service line with 11 aces. She also had a kill and an assist. Setter Lauren Price was credited with 39 assists, six digs and one kill. Maggie Faust also was a defensive presence with 21 digs to go along with six kills and three aces.
“We couldn’t get into a rhythm offensively as a whole and came up short,” UD coach Paul Choi said. “It was fun to watch our middle battle up against their outside throughout the match.”
The Ghosts improved to 4-2 in conference play (4-3 overall) while the Cardinals are 3-3.
PLYMOUTH WHITEMARSH 3, WISSAHICKON 0 (25-7, 25-21, 25-17)
The Colonials, who improved to 4-2 on the season, rolled to a sweep of the Trojans.
PW’s service game was in top form as the squad finished with 17 aces. Julia Walker and Sophia Repholz both had four service aces. Aja Smith led the Colonials with 13 kills while Erin Dolan had a good day at libero with 14 kills.
The Trojans were glad to be part of the Wissahickon Lady Trojan Senior Night.
