Pennridge's Amsden & Sims Commit to Play Collegiate Field Hockey

On Wednesday, Nov. 11, 2020, Pennridge seniors Emily Amsden and Amber Sims were recognized for committing to continue their field hockey careers at the collegiate level.

Emily Amsden – Johns Hopkins University (Field Hockey)

Major:  Biology

Final list of colleges: Johns Hopkins, Lafayette, Bucknell, Villanova

Reasons for choosing Johns Hopkins:  “I first visited Johns Hopkins my sophomore year, and I immediately fell in love with it. I love the team and the school culture, and I like how Hopkins provides competitive academics and athletics.”

What was the progression that led you to competing in field hockey at the collegiate level?  “I always had a love for field hockey, so I knew I wanted to play in college. I began the recruiting process heading into my freshman year by going to tournaments, camps and clinics. Eventually, I found a school and team that were a perfect fit for me.”

Coach Becky Spahr says: “Emily Amsden is one of the most skilled players we’ve ever had going through Pennridge, but she’s also one of the players that is always looking to get better. She works tirelessly on own individual skills in the offseason, and every year I’m impressed with her improvement and her contributions to our team.

“This year she became a team leader for us as a captain and really learned how to not only motivate our team but how to help her teammates improve. Emily is going to be a really big contributor to Johns Hopkins, and I’m looking forward to watching her be super successful.”

I do love the environment that Gwynedd Mercy provides, and the criminal justice program that is offered at this college happens to provide me many opportunities to ensure a career in law enforcement.

“The field hockey team at GMU is such a positive environment and is a place where I can feel challenged and encouraged which will help me strive to become a better player and better individual.”

What was the progression that led you to competing in field hockey at the collegiate level?  Pennridge field hockey is the main reason why I have made it to this point today. Playing field hockey for Pennridge has not only challenged me but has constantly created an environment where I am set up to improve as a player and individual. The coaching staff and teammates have always created a positive atmosphere on and off the field that has helped grow my passion for this sport. My love for field hockey has stemmed through my participation in Pennridge athletics and has always inspired me to be nothing less than what I can be.”

Coach Becky Spahr says: “Amber Sims is going to Gwynedd Mercy, and I’m really excited that she gets to stay close by so we can cheer her on. She is one of the hardest workers I’ve ever coached. She’s improved every season and has started to really contribute not only to our team’s defense but also our offense this year. She is able to play in any position that we ask of her and is always willing to do what’s best for our team. She’s going to have an amazing time at Gwynedd Mercy, and I’m super glad she gets to be part of their program.”
