UPPER MORELAND GIRLS’ BASKETBALL PREVIEW
Coach: Matt Carroll, 5th year at Upper Moreland
Assistant coaches: Pete Williams, Kim Frantz
Last year’s record: 12-11 (8-6 in league)
Notable losses: Four starters including Bean Hughes (1st team all-league)
Key returners: Kaiya Herb (12/G, 4-year starter), EmmyFaith Wood (10/G, Honorable Mention)
Others to watch: “We graduated four REALLY important players last year in Abs, Bean, Emma, and Hannah. It’s a big year for girls who may not have had an opportunity last year to prove themselves and find a new role on the team. We expect girls from every grade to make an impact for us this year.”
Strengths/Question Marks: “For the first time in over five years, we have a lot of different offensive options. We will be well-balanced offensively and won’t have to rely on any one thing. The question is how much will our inexperience have an impact on our production, especially on the defensive end. With a new look to the varsity roster and a limited off-season, it will be interesting to see how quickly we can gain experience and continue to compete in every game.”
Outlook: “Although we will really miss our four seniors from last year, we are excited for our new-look team in our new-look league. Kaiya has been a constant for us as a four-year starter, and I think she’s going to have a great senior year. EmmyFaith showed a lot of flashes as a freshman and is so much better since last February. The rest is relatively unknown and it will be fun to watch it all unfold. There’s no doubt that our girls are going to continue to work extremely hard and put themselves in a position to compete in every game and hopefully have a chance to win the Freedom League by the end of the season. Many may think that last year was our chance and now we are starting over again. We consider this more as a rebuild than a restart and our goals are still the same and just as achievable.”
