BENSALEM 3, ABINGTON 1 (23-25, 25-22, 25-23, 25-18)
After dropping the first set, the Owls rallied to win the next three to earn the season-opening win.
Leading the Owls was Dylan Young, who celebrated his birthday with 18 kills. Dhruv Patel dished out 42 assists. Tyler Hoang (10 kills, seven digs), Om Patel (nine kills), Adam Nevrotski (six kills, three blocks) and Luis Rodriguez (four kills) all made important contributions at the net. Harsh Shah led the team with 13 digs and four assists.
Bensalem (1-0) will travel to Council Rock South on Monday, and Abington will host Pennsbury on Monday.
NESHAMINY 3, COUNCIL ROCK SOUTH 0 (25-11, 25-10, 25-18)
The visiting Redskins rolled to a sweep of the Golden Hawks in Friday’s opener.
Paul Allen led a balanced attack with seven kills to go along with two aces and two digs. Adding five kills each were Josh Clendening (one block) and Kieran Edwards (one ace, one dig, two blocks). Josh Adler, Ben Clendening (one block), Colin Smith (one ace, one dig) and Josh Hamilton each had a pair of kills.
Setter Nick Storz handed out 24 assists to go along with four aces, one kill and one dig. Jesse Kovaschetz led the defense with five digs. Peter Nowak (one kill, one block) and Stephen Fario (one ace, one dig) also contributed.
Neshaminy (1-0) will host William Tennent on Monday, and Council Rock South (0-1) will host Bensalem on Monday.
COUNCIL ROCK NORTH 3, PENNSBURY 1 (21-25, 25-21, 25-19, 25-21)
The visiting Indians dropped the opening set but rallied to win the next three to earn the important win.
Turning in notable performances for the Indians were outside hitter Justin Burns (four aces, eight kills, 11 digs), outside hitter Brady Klein (four aces, nine kills) and Martin Nguyen (14 digs).
For the Falcons, Nate Sadley had a big night, finishing with 12 kills, three aces, six digs and one block. Patrick Miller added six kills, four aces, eight digs and two block assists. Setter Jon Nixon had 20 assists to go along with two kills, five digs and one block assist. Brady Burgfechtel led the defense with eight digs and also had one ace and three assists. Mark Elton (two kills, two aces, three digs), Ryan Mateo (one kill, two block assists), Arush Shroff (one kill, one ace, three block assists) and Evan Brown (one kill, one dig, two blocks assists) also contributed.
Council Rock North (1-0) will travel to Abington on Wednesday, and Pennsbury (0-1) will be on the road at Abington on Monday.
SOL American
CENTRAL BUCKS EAST 3, CENTRAL BUCKS SOUTH 0 (25-20, 25-19, 25-13)
In a battle of neighboring rivals, it was the Patriots earning the straight set win over the visiting Titans.
East was led offensively by CJ Dalby with seven kills, five digs, two blocks and two aces. Setter Liam Ostrander had two digs, one ace, two kills and 17 assists, and Matt LaBouliere added six kills, five aces, a block and 10 digs. Libero Aiden Leichter accounted for eight digs and two aces while AJ Helveston added two kills and three digs. Josh Lyzinski and Trevor Seestedt contributed two kills each.
For the Titans, senior setter Garrett MacClay – in his first varsity game at setter – recorded eight assists and also had one ace and two kills. Middle blocker Christopher Kline had five blocks and two kills. Senior middle Robert Coleman added five kills, one block and six digs.
“For a team with no returning starters in any position, I thought we played pretty well against a good team in East,” South coach Matt Ehlers said. “We have some stuff to work on and some stuff we learned today, but I completely believe this group of boys can put it together as the season goes on.”
Central Bucks East (1-0) will travel to Souderton on Monday, and Central Bucks South (0-1) will host La Salle on Saturday in a non-league match.
PENNRIDGE 3, QUAKERTOWN 1 (33-31, 25-21, 23-25, 25-12)
The Rams survived a grueling first set and went on to win the second before the Panthers edged their visitors in the third. The Rams closed it out with a convincing win in the fourth set.
Pennridge setter Riley Kodidek had a busy night, handing out 40 assists to go along with five aces. Dan Detweiler led the defense with 14 digs while Bryce Muller led the Rams’ potent attack with 14 kills and also had four aces. Ryan Benscoter and Tyler Johnson both had 10 kills. Benscoter also had a team high nine digs. Thomas McKinney added seven kills.
For the Panthers, Jared Leatherman led the way with 10 kills and three aces while Micah Reinford had eight kills and four aces. Jeff Sinsel had five kills and three blocks, and Zander Marks added one kill, two blocks and two aces. Setter Cody Steiert had 19 assists and one ace.
