The Hatboro-Horsham Hatters rode a brilliant pitching performance by freshmen, Stephen Plefka, to a 3-2 win over the visiting Harry S. Truman Tigers on Monday. Plefka needed only a remarkable 63 pitches in his complete game effort. The young lefty struck out 2 while walking only 1 and allowed just 3 hits on the day.

The Hatters offense was led by junior first baseman Logan Fischer and junior shortstop Ryan Toporowski. Fischer hit a towering homerun to left field in the bottom of the second inning to tie the game at 1-1. He also scored another run in the bottom of the fourth inning to tie the game at 2-2. Toporowski was 1-2 with a stolen base and scored the game winning run. Junior right fielder, Jack Elwell, was 1-3 with his second double of the season.

In the bottom of the 7 th inning, Toporowski worked a walk with one out. Sophomore left fielder Trey Porter also walked. With two outs, Toporowski scored on an errant throw when the Tigers tried to back pick Porter at first base. Toporowski raced home from second, sliding into home to beat the throw and give the Hatters their first win of 2021.

The Tigers junior third baseman, Wil Brennan, was impressive on the day going 2-3 with a double and two runs scored. He also made a few nice plays at third, showing range and a strong arm. Truman’s junior catcher, Mike Burns, threw out 2 of 5 base stealers.

The Hatters (1-1) are back in action on Tuesday, when they host CB South at 3:45.
